[Termes IGN] zone équatorialeRésumé : (Auteur) The fundamental issue in GPS positioning is the ability to mitigate all the potential errors and biases in the system. The atmosphere related errors of ionosphere and troposphere constitute one of these potential errors. The tropospheric effect is much more pronounced at the equatorial region due to its hot and wet conditions. This significantly affects the GPS signal due to the variability of the refractive index, which in turn affects the accuracy of GPS positioning, especially in the height components. This paper presents a study conducted in Malaysia located at the equatorial region, to investigate the impact of tropospheric delay on GPS height variation. Five GPS reference stations forming part of the Malaysian real-time kinematic GPS network (MyRTKnet) in Johor were used. RINEX data from these stations were integrated with GPS and ground meteorological data observed from a GPS station located at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), at varying antenna heights for each session of observation in four campaigns with each campaign lasting for three days. A computer program called TROPO.exe was developed based on Saastamoinen tropospheric model. The result shows variations in the height component of GPS measurement with a maximum value of 119.100 cm and a minimum value of 37.990 cm. Similarly, the results show that the tropospheric delay is a distance-dependent error which varies with changes in meteorological condition. Furthermore, the results of simulated data show a decrease in tropospheric delay with increase in antenna height. [Termes IGN] problème des valeurs limitesRésumé : (Auteur) We propose a methodology for local gravity field modelling from gravity data using spherical radial basis functions. The methodology comprises two steps: in step 1, gravity data (gravity anomalies and/or gravity disturbances) are used to estimate the disturbing potential using least-squares techniques. The latter is represented as a linear combination of spherical radial basis functions (SRBFs). A data-adaptive strategy is used to select the optimal number, location, and depths of the SRBFs using generalized cross validation. Variance component estimation is used to determine the optimal regularization parameter and to properly weight the different data sets. In the second step, the gravimetric height anomalies are combined with observed differences between global positioning system (GPS) ellipsoidal heights and normal heights. The data combination is written as the solution of a Cauchy boundary-value problem for the Laplace equation. This allows removal of the non-uniqueness of the problem of local gravity field modelling from terrestrial gravity data. At the same time, existing systematic distortions in the gravimetric and geometric height anomalies are also absorbed into the combination. The approach is used to compute a height reference surface for the Netherlands. The solution is compared with NLGEO2004, the official Dutch height reference surface, which has been computed using the same data but a Stokes-based approach with kernel modification and a geometric six-parameter “corrector surface” to fit the gravimetric solution to the GPS-levelling points. A direct comparison of both height reference surfaces shows an RMS difference of 0.6 cm; the maximum difference is 2.1 cm. A test at independent GPS-levelling control points, confirms that our solution is in no way inferior to NLGEO2004. [Termes IGN] transformation de coordonnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Vector-based algorithms for the computation of azimuth, elevation and the ellipsoidal normal unit vector from 3D Cartesian coordinates are presented. As a by-product, the formulae for the ellipsoidal normal vector can also be used to iteratively transform rectangular Cartesian coordinates (X, Y, Z) into geodetic coordinates for a height range from -5600 km to 108 km. Comparisons with existing methods indicate that the new transformation can compete with them. [Termes IGN] transformation de HelmertRésumé : (Auteur) Transforming height information that refers to an ellipsoidal Earth reference model, such as the geometric heights determined from GPS measurements or the geoid undulations obtained by a gravimetric geoid solution, from one geodetic reference frame (GRF) to another is an important task whose proper implementation is crucial for many geodetic, surveying and mapping applications. This paper presents the required methodology to deal with the above problem when we are given the Helmert transformation parameters that link the underlying Cartesian coordinate systems to which an Earth reference ellipsoid is attached. The main emphasis is on the effect of GRF spatial scale differences in coordinate transformations involving reference ellipsoids, for the particular case of heights. Since every three-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system ‘gauges’ an attached ellipsoid according to its own accessible scale, there will exist a supplementary contribution from the scale variation between the involved GRFs on the relative size of their attached reference ellipsoids. Neglecting such a scale-induced indirect effect corrupts the values for the curvilinear geodetic coordinates obtained from a similarity transformation model, and meter-level apparent offsets can be introduced in the transformed heights. The paper explains the above issues in detail and presents the necessary mathematical framework for their treatment.
