[Termes IGN] résiduRésumé : (Auteur) This paper investigates the third-order residual range error in the dual-frequency correction of ionospheric effects on satellite navigation. We solve the two-point trajectory problem using the perturbation method to derive second-approximation formulas for the phase path of the wave propagating through an inhomogeneous ionosphere. It is shown that these formulas are consistent with the results derived from applying perturbation theory directly to the eikonal equation. The resulting expression for the phase path is used in calculating the residual range error of dual-frequency global positioning system (GPS) observations, in view of second- and third-order terms. The third-order correction includes not only the quadratic correction of the refractive index but also the correction for ray bending in an inhomogeneous ionosphere. Our calculations took into consideration that the ionosphere has regular large-scale irregularities, as well as smaller-scale random irregularities. Numerical examples show that geomagnetic field effects, which constitute a second-order correction, typically exceed the effects of the quadratic correction and the regular ionospheric inhomogeneity. The contribution from random irregularities can compare with or exceed that made by the second-order correction. Therefore, random ionospheric irregularities can make a significant (sometimes dominant) contribution to the residual range error. [Termes IGN] trajet multipleRésumé : (Auteur) The Global Positioning System (GPS) has become a powerful tool for ionospheric studies. In addition, ionospheric corrections are necessary for the augmentation systems required for Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) use. Dual-frequency carrier-phase and code-delay GPS observations are combined to obtain ionospheric observables related to the slant total electron content (sTEC) along the satellite-receiver line-of-sight (LoS). This observable is affected by inter-frequency biases [IFB; often called differential code biases (DCB)] due to the transmitting and the receiving hardware. These biases must be estimated and eliminated from the data in order to calibrate the experimental sTEC obtained from GPS observations. Based on the analysis of single differences of the ionospheric observations obtained from pairs of co-located dual-frequency GPS receivers, this research addresses two major issues: (1) assessing the errors translated from the code-delay to the carrier-phase ionospheric observable by the so-called levelling process, applied to reduce carrier-phase ambiguities from the data; and (2) assessing the short-term stability of receiver IFB. The conclusions achieved are: (1) the levelled carrier-phase ionospheric observable is affected by a systematic error, produced by code-delay multi-path through the levelling procedure; and (2) receiver IFB may experience significant changes during 1 day. The magnitude of both effects depends on the receiver/antenna configuration. Levelling errors found in this research vary from 1.4 total electron content units (TECU) to 5.3 TECU. In addition, intra-day vaiations of code-delay receiver IFB ranging from 1.4 to 8.8 TECU were detected. [Termes IGN] température de luminanceRésumé : (Auteur) This work addressed the retrieval of Land Surface Emissivity (LSE) from combined mid-infrared and thermal infrared data of Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infra-Red Imager (SEVIRI) onboard the geostationary satelliteMeteosat Second Generation (MSG). To correct for the atmospheric effects in satellite measurements, a new atmospheric correction scheme was developed for both Middle Infra-Red (MIR) and Thermal Infra-Red (TIR) channels. For the MIR channel, because it is less sensitive to the change of water vapor content, the clear-sky and time-nearest European Centre for Median-range Weather Forecast (ECMWF) atmospheric data were used for the images where no atmospheric data are available. For TIR channels, a modified model of Diurnal Temperature Cycle (DTC) used by Göttsche and Olesen and Schädlich et al. was adopted. The separation of Land Surface Temperature (LST) and LSE is based on the concept of the Temperature Independent Spectral Indices (TISI) constructed with one channel in MIR and one channel in TIR. The results of two different combinations (combination of channels 4 and 9 and of channels 4 and 10) and two successive days at six specific locations over North Africa show that the retrievals are consistent. The range of emissivity in MSG-SEVIRI channel 4 goes from 0.5 for bare areas to 0.96 for densely vegetated areas, whereas the emissivities in MSG-SEVIRI channels 9 and 10 are usually from 0.9 to 0.95 for bare areas and from 0.95 to 1.0 for vegetated areas. For densely vegetated areas, the emissivities in MSG-SEVIRI channel 9 are larger than the ones in channel 10, whereas the opposite is observed over bare areas. The RMS differences between two combinations over the whole studied region are 0.017 for emissivity in channel 4, 0.008 for emissivity in channel 9 and 0.007 for emissivity in channel 10. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper the calibration of Optech ALTM 3100 laser scanner intensity is reported using airborne experiments and known brightness targets. The Finnish Geodetic Institute has had a permanent photogrammetric test field in Sjokulla Kirkkonummi since 1994. This test field contains permanent and transportable test targets for radiometric calibration, permanent ground control points for small, medium and large-scale geometric calibration and also test bar targets for spatial analysis of analogue and digital aerial cameras. Since 2000 LiDAR testing has also been carried out, the latest being Optech ALTM 3100 campaign in 12-14 July 2005. Eight portable brightness targets with nominal reflectance of 5 %, 10 %, 20 %, 25 %, 30 %, 45 %, 50 % and 70 % were in use for LiDAR testing. Flying heights were about 200, 1000 and 3000 m above ground level. Intensity values need to be corrected with respect to range, incidence angle (both BRDF and range correction), atmospheric transmittance, attenuation using dark object addition and transmitted power (because difference in PRF will lead to different transmitter power values). After these corrections, the intensity values were directly relative to target reflectance. Flight heights of 200 m and 1000 m are suitable for intensity calibration using artificial test targets due to the practical aspects of the calibration (size of the calibrator). With the 3000 m altitude signals with reflectance of less or equal of 10% could not be recorded most probably due to insufficient signal-to-noise ratio. Thus, the test target reflectance should exceed 10% to give a reliable distance measurement from 3000 m altitude.
