[Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) In recent times, multi-spectral drone imagery has proved to be a useful tool for measuring tree crop canopy structure. In this context, establishing the most appropriate flight planning variable settings is an essential consideration due to their controls on the quality of the imagery and derived maps of tree and crop biophysical properties. During flight planning, variables including flight altitude, image overlap, flying direction, flying speed and solar elevation, require careful consideration in order to produce the most suitable drone imagery. Previous studies have assessed the influence of individual variables on image quality, but the interaction of multiple variables has yet to be examined. This study assesses the influence of several flight variables on measures of data quality in each processing step, i.e. photo alignment, point cloud densification, 3D model building, and ortho-mosaicking. The analysis produced a drone flight planning and image processing workflow that delivers accurate measurements of tree crops, including the tie point quality, densified point cloud density, and the measurement accuracy of height and plant projective cover derived from individual trees within a commercial avocado orchard. Results showed that flying along the hedgerow, at high solar elevation and with low image pitch angles improved the data quality. Optimal flying speed needs to be set to achieve the required forward overlap. The impacts of each image acquisition variable are discussed in detail and protocols for flight planning optimisation for three scenarios with different drone settings are suggested. Establishing protocols that deliver optimal image acquisitions for the collection of drone data over horticultural tree crops, will create greater confidence in the accuracy of subsequent algorithms and resultant maps of biophysical properties. [Termes IGN] sismologieRésumé : (auteur) Optical imagery has been proven to be an effective tool for measuring earthquake deformation in continental regions since its first application in the 1999 Izmit earthquake. In this article, we compile and analyze all the earthquakes that have been investigated with optical image matching by 2019, based on which we comment on various issues regarding measuring earthquake deformation with optical imagery. New generations of very high-resolution (VHR) data are effective for earthquake studies, but orthorectification of the VHR images is the major source of error, which is often ignored. We found that the displacements derived from the WorldView images strongly correlate with the errors in the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) digital elevation model (DEM) that was used in orthorectification. Based on the observed correlation between displacements and topography, we propose a new DEM-based method using the Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) World 3-D DEM to reduce the orthorectification errors. Combining the published optical data of earthquake deformation, we re-analyze the coseismic slip distribution and shallow slip deficit (SSD). The SSD model states that the coseismic slip in many strike-slip earthquakes decreases in magnitude toward the surface, but this model remains arguable because the interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR)-derived slip is usually not well-constrained at shallow depths due to decorrelation. Because optical matching directly measures the surface slip, we re-examine the slip distribution of 11 strike-slip earthquakes and find that the SSD model may primarily be artifacts in the InSAR measurements. It is therefore of great importance to include the optical data in earthquake studies to constrain coseismic slip inversions. [Termes IGN] vue perspectiveRésumé : (Auteur) We propose a generic method for epipolar resampling that is not tied to a specific camera model. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach on a central perspective, pushbroom and pushbroom panoramic camera models. We also devise an epipolarability index that measures the suitability of an image pair for epipolar rectification, and provide a formal derivation of the ambiguity bound to epipolar resampling. [Termes IGN] QGISRésumé : (auteur) [original abstract] High-resolution satellite images must undergo a geometric rectification process in order to be used for metrical purposes. This operation, called orthorectification, is necessary because of deformations mainly due to camera distortions and acquisition geometry. To correctly orthorectify an image, it is necessary to accurately reconstruct the photogrammetric-acquisition characteristics and the image position with respect to a reference system connected to the ground. This operation, called orientation, can be done using various mathematical models such as rigorous, rational polynomial function (RPF), and rational polynomial coefficient, or, according to some authors, rapid positioning coefficient (RPC) models. Orientation and orthorectification are usually performed within specific commercial software, but in QGIS, these complex operations can be performed using the open libraries of the Orfeo Tool Box (OTB). Unfortunately, instructions given by OTB developers lead to scarce results. In fact, the procedure proposed in OTB does not allow for the full exploitation of the potential of RPC models, on which OTB itself is based. As OTB is open-source software, a plugin was developed to overcome these limitations and exploit its full potential. In fact, OTB interfaces are unfortunately essential, and some necessary functions are missing. Therefore, a new QGIS plugin was developed in order to run the entire process in the most photogrammetrically and statistically correct way, and, at the same time, to simplify the relative procedures.
