[Termes IGN] réflectance spectraleRésumé : (Auteur) The fusion of hyperspectral imaging (HSI) sensor and airborne lidar scanner (ALS) data provides promising potential for applications in environmental sciences. Standard fusion approaches use reflectance information from the HSI and distance measurements from the ALS to increase data dimensionality and geometric accuracy. However, the potential for data fusion based on the respective intensity information of the complementary active and passive sensor systems is high and not yet fully exploited. Here, an approach for the rigorous illumination correction of HSI data, based on the radiometric cross-calibrated return intensity information of ALS data, is presented. The cross calibration utilizes a ray tracing-based fusion of both sensor measurements by intersecting their particular beam shapes. The developed method is capable of compensating for the drawbacks of passive HSI systems, such as cast and cloud shadowing effects, illumination changes over time, across track illumination, and partly anisotropy effects. During processing, spatial and temporal differences in illumination patterns are detected and corrected over the entire HSI wavelength domain. The improvement in the classification accuracy of urban and vegetation surfaces demonstrates the benefit and potential of the proposed HSI illumination correction. The presented approach is the first step toward the rigorous in-flight fusion of passive and active system characteristics, enabling new capabilities for a variety of applications. [Termes IGN] zone tamponRésumé : (Auteur) This paper proposes a novel occlusion detection method for urban true orthophoto generation. In this new method, occlusion detection is performed using a ghost image; this method is therefore considerably different from the traditional Z-buffer method, in which occlusion detection is performed during the generation of a true orthophoto (to avoid ghost image occurrence). In the proposed method, a model is first established that describes the relationship between each ghost image and the boundary of the corresponding building occlusion, and then an algorithm is applied to identify the occluded areas in the ghost images using the building displacements. This theory has not previously been applied in true orthophoto generation. The experimental results demonstrate that the method proposed in this paper is capable of effectively avoiding pseudo-occlusion detection, with a success rate of 99.2%, and offers improved occlusion detection accuracy compared with the traditional Z-buffer detection method. The advantage of this method is that it avoids the shortcoming of performing occlusion detection and true orthophoto generation simultaneously, which results in false visibility and false occlusions; instead, the proposed method detects occlusions from ghost images and therefore provides simple and effective true orthophoto generation. Note de contenu :

[Termes IGN] reliefRésumé : (Auteur) Radiometric correction of radar images is essential to produce accurate estimates of biophysical parameters related to forest structure and biomass. We present a new algorithm to correct radiometry for 1) terrain topography and 2) variations of canopy reflectivity with viewing and tree-terrain geometry. This algorithm is applicable to radar images spanning a wide range of incidence angles over terrain with significant topography and can also take into account aircraft attitude, antenna steering angle, and target geometry. The approach includes elements of both homomorphic and heteromorphic terrain corrections to correct for topographic effects and is followed by an additional radiometric correction to compensate for variations of canopy reflectivity with viewing and tree-terrain geometry. The latter correction is based on lookup tables and enables derivation of biophysical parameters irrespective of viewing geometry and terrain topography. We evaluate the performance of the new algorithm with airborne radar data and show that it performs better than classical homomorphic methods followed by cosine-based corrections.
