[Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents the Automatic Registration of Remote-Sensing Images (ARRSI); an automatic registration system built to register satellite and aerial remotely sensed images. The system is designed specifically to address the problems associated with the registration of remotely sensed images obtained at different times and/or from different sensors. The ARRSI system is capable of handling remotely sensed images geometrically distorted by various transformations such as translation, rotation, and shear. Global and local contrast issues associated with remotely sensed images are addressed in ARRSI using control-point detection and matching processes based on a phase-congruency model. Intensity-difference issues associated with multimodal registration of remotely sensed images are addressed in ARRSI through the use of features that are invariant to intensity mappings during the control-point matching process. An adaptive control-point matching scheme is employed in ARRSI to reduce the performance issues associated with the registration of large remotely sensed images. Finally, a variation on the Random Sample and Consensus algorithm called Maximum Distance Sample Consensus is introduced in ARRSI to improve the accuracy of the transformation model between two remotely sensed images while minimizing computational overhead. The ARRSI system has been tested using various satellite and aerial remotely sensed images and evaluated based on its accuracy and computational performance. The results indicate that the registration accuracy of ARRSI is comparable to that produced by a human expert and improvement over the baseline and multimodal sum of squared differences registration techniques tested. [Termes IGN] valeur radiométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) Existing image fusion techniques such as the intensity–hue–saturation (IHS) transform and principal components analysis (PCA) methods may not be optimal for fusing the new generation commercial high-resolution satellite images such as Ikonos and QuickBird. One problem is color distortion in the fused image, which causes visual changes as well as spectral differences between the original and fused images. In this paper, a fast Fourier transform (FFT)-enhanced IHS method is developed for fusing new generation high-resolution satellite images. This method combines a standard IHS transform with FFT filtering of both the panchromatic image and the intensity component of the original multispectral image. Ikonos and QuickBird data are used to assess the FFT-enhanced IHS transform method. Experimental results indicate that the FFT-enhanced IHS transform method may improve upon the standard IHS transform and the PCA methods in preserving spectral and spatial information. [Termes IGN] pouvoir de résolution géométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) The present article reports the results of an extensive empirical evaluation of spatial resolution of a digital large format Intergraph DMC sensor. The parameters of the study were flight direction, ground sample distance (GSD) and the distance from the image center. The key finding of the study was that the resolution of the DMC panchromatic large-format image was clearly dependent on the distance from the image center. One reason for this behavior is that the DMC large-format image is composed of four oblique images; the resolution of the oblique images is reduced towards the image border due to the scale reduction and projective distortion. From the image pixel size of 12 um of DMC, a nominal resolving power value (RP) 84 lines/mm can be derived. Maximal resolution reduction factors in the image comers, caused by the image tilt, were 1.6 in the cross-flight direction and 1.4 in the flight direction. The distance from the image center did not appear to affect the resolution of the low-resolution multi-spectral images looking towards nadir. The observed MTFs indicated attractive behavior. The A WAR values of the panchromatic images were between 61 and 71 lines/mm, which is 1.2-1.4 times the nominal RP-value. Other important findings were the effects of GSD and flight direction on the resolution; these properties evidently characterize the behavior of the entire photogrammetric system tested. The image restoration by a linear restoring finite impulse response filter provided a constant resolution improvement factor of 1.4. [Termes IGN] zoomRésumé : (Auteur) One of the well-known constraints applying to the adoption of consumer-grade digital cameras for photogrammetric measurement is the requirement to record imagery at fixed zoom and focus settings. The camera is then calibrated for the lens setting employed. This requirement arises because calibration parameters vary significantly with zoom/focus setting. In this paper, a zoom-dependent calibration process is proposed whereby the image coordinate correction model for interior orientation and lens distortion is expressed as a function of the focal length written to the EXIF header of the image file. The proposed approach frees the practitioner from the requirement to utilize fixed zoom/focus settings for the images forming the photogrammetric network. Following a review of the behaviour of camera calibration parameters with varying zoom settings, an account of the newly developed zoom-dependent calibration model is presented. Experimental results of its application to four digital cameras are analysed. These show that the proposed approach is suited to numerous applications of medium-accuracy, digital, close-range photogrammetry.
