[Termes IGN] retard troposphériqueRésumé : (auteur) Estimating horizontal tropospheric gradients is a common practice in VLBI and GPS data analyses. We investigate here the possibility to do the same for DORIS. We reprocessed all 2007 DORIS data for all satellites, using exactly the same strategy as the latest ignwd08 solution (Willis et al., Adv Space Res 45(12):1470–1480, 2010) but adding two new parameters per day to account for any asymmetry of the tropospheric delays. When averaged over the full year the DORIS north gradient estimates show a significant correlation with GPS estimates at 33 co-located sites. The east gradient is loosely determined with DORIS due to the north-south orientation of the satellites passes in 2007. Typical values are below 1 mm and North component shows a latitude dependency, negative values in the Northern hemisphere and positive values in the Southern hemisphere. The stacking of DORIS station weekly coordinates provides a more realistic value for a factor of unit weight when done using gradient estimation. Station coordinates also indicate a small improvement in internal consistency when compared to a 1-year position and velocity solution without estimating gradients. The DORIS-derived tropospheric gradients may still absorb other types of un-modeled errors, but estimation of such parameters should be investigated in more detail before reprocessing the entire DORIS data set in view of the next ITRF realization, following ITRF2008. [Termes IGN] teneur intégrée en vapeur d'eauRésumé : (auteur) The vital role of water vapour in the Earth’s climate system requires measurements of the atmospheric Integrated Water Vapour (IWV) with a long-term stability and a high accuracy. This work focuses on using the Global Positioning System (GPS) to provide IWV estimates for climate applications. The advantages of the GPS measurements are that they can be performed independently on the weather and have a high temporal resolution (a few minutes) as well as a continuously improving spatial resolution (a few km for some local networks). The uncertainty of the GPS-derived IWV highly depends on the accuracy of the estimated Zenith Total Delay (ZTD), which is determined by many parameters, i.e. satellite orbit errors, ionospheric delay, signal multipath, antenna related errors (e.g. phase centre variations), and mapping functions. We demonstrated that the uncertainty of the GPS-derived IWV below 1 kg/m2 is achievable. The long-term change of the IWV can be an independent data source to detect climate changes. Using a global GPS IWV data set covering a 15-year-long time period, we found estimated IWV trends in a range from ¡1.65 to +2.32 kg/(m2¢decade) which, however, are comparable to the trend uncertainties varying from 0.21 to 1.52 kg/(m2¢decade). The trend uncertainty is mainly caused by the short-term variations of the IWV which cannot be modelled accurately. The uncertainty is also due to the errors in IWV estimates, which are random and/or elevation-dependent systematic errors. A higher elevation cutoff angle used in the GPS data analysis (a 25± was revealed for the time period investigated and for the region of Fennoscandia) can be an advantage to reduce the impact of such systematic errors. The GPS-derived IWV can also be used for the evaluation of climate models. The IWV derived from the GPS measurements acquired at 99 European sites, each with a maximum time series of 14 years, were compared to the IWV simulated by a regional climate model. Overall, a monthly mean difference of »0.5 kg/m2 (model¡GPS) is obtained where a significant seasonal variation is seen in the difference. The model is too dry in the summer. Study of the diurnal cycle of the IWV using both the GPS data and the model simulation shows a good agreement for the phase while a smaller amplitude is seen in the results from the model. [Termes IGN] variation temporelleRésumé : (Auteur) Spaceborne interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) imaging has been used for over a decade to monitor tectonic movements and landslides, as well as to improve digital elevation models. However, InSAR is affected by variations in round-trip propagation delay due to changes in ionospheric total electron content and in tropospheric humidity and temperature along the signal path. One of the largest sources of uncertainty in estimates of tropospheric path delay is the spatial and temporal variability of water vapor density, which currently limits the quality of InSAR products. This problem can be partially addressed by using a number of SAR interferograms from subsequent satellite overpasses to reduce the degradation in the images or by analyzing a long time series of interferometric phases from permanent scatterers. However, if there is a sudden deformation of the Earth's surface, the detection of which is one of the principal objectives of InSAR measurements over land, the effect of water vapor variations cannot be removed, reducing the quality of the interferometric products. In those cases, high-resolution information on the atmospheric water vapor content and its variation with time can be crucial to mitigate the effect of wet-tropospheric path delay variations. This paper describes the use of a ground-based microwave radiometer network to retrieve 3D water vapor density with fine spatial and temporal resolution, which can be used to reduce InSAR ambiguities due to changes in wet-tropospheric path delay. Retrieval results and comparisons between the integrated water vapor measured by the radiometer network and satellite data are presented. [Termes IGN] traitement de données GNSSRésumé : (Auteur) Modern troposphere delay models like the Vienna Mapping Functions (VMF1) are based on data from Numerical Weather Models (NWM) with a time resolution of typically 6 hours. Different from purely analytical formulations like the Global Mapping Functions, the VMF1 can account for real weather phenomena like changing high and low pressure systems and are thus more accurate. Additionally, the zenith hydrostatic delays can also be derived from NWM if pressure values recorded at the sites are not available. We compare the VMF1 and zenith delays as derived from data of the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) with those parameters derived from data of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), and we find a good agreement between those two realizations with station height differences at the few-millimeter level.
