[Termes IGN] segmentation sémantiqueRésumé : (auteur) Images from archival aerial photogrammetric surveys are a unique and relatively unexplored means to chronicle 3D land-cover changes occurred since the mid 20th century. They provide a relatively dense temporal sampling of the territories with a very high spatial resolution. Thus, they offer time series data which can answer a large variety of long-term environmental monitoring studies. Besides, they are generally stereoscopic surveys, making it possible to derive 3D information (Digital Surface Models). In recent years, they have often been digitized, making them more suitable to be considered in automatic analyses processes. Some photogrammetric softwares make it possible to retrieve their geometry (pose and camera calibration) and to generate corresponding DSM and orthophotomosaic. Thus, archival aerial photogrammetric surveys appear as being a powerful remote sensing data source to study land use/cover evolution over the last century. However, several difficulties have to be faced to be able to use them in automatic analysis processes. Indeed, surveys available on a study area can exhibit very different characteristics: survey pattern, focal, spatial resolution, modality (panchromatic, colour, infrared…). Planimetric and altimetric accuracies of derived products strongly depend on these characteristics. Thus, analysis processes have to cope with these uncertainties. Another important gap states in the lack of training data. Deep learning methods and especially Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) are at present the most efficient semantic segmentation methods as long as a sufficient training dataset is available. However, temporal gaps can be very important between existing available databases and archival data. In this study, two custom variants of simple yet effective U-net - Deconv-Net inspired DL architectures are developed to process ortho-image and DSM based information. They are then trained out of a groundtruth derived out of a recent database to process archival datasets. [Termes IGN] séquence d'imagesRésumé : (auteur) In 2019, four strong earthquakes of Mw>6.4 occurred successively in Mindanao, Philippines. Based on the reports from the USGS and PHIVOLCS, these earthquakes were dominated by strike-slip ruptures. Whether these earthquakes are temporally and spatially related remained unknown. We characterized the coseismic displacement fields during the earthquake sequence using an InSAR technique with Sentinel-1 SAR data. The InSAR deformation measurements convincingly reveal that the four earthquakes produced distinct coseismic displacement patterns. We estimated the source parameters of the earthquakes with a two-step inversion strategy. The optimal model suggests that the earthquake sequence resulted from the reactivation of a conjugate fault structure that involves two nearly vertical left-lateral strike-slip faults and two high-angle right-lateral strike-slip faults. We calculated Coulomb stress changes from the earthquake sequence, suggesting that the previous strong earthquakes had significant stress-encouraging effects on the following events. The regional velocities based on the GPS analysis suggest that the formation of this conjugate structure is mainly due to the westward movement of the subducting Philippine Sea Plate. This earthquake sequence provides a seismotectonic background for subsequent strong earthquakes and helps to better understand the formation mechanisms and seismotectonic implications of conjugate structure rupturing. It possesses many positive qualities such as high spatial resolution, stereoscopic configuration and short time interval. Self-calibration reamains a main bottleneck for achieving the intrinsic value of historical imagery, as it involves certain underdeveloped research points such as detecting inter-epoch tie-points. In this research, we present a novel algorithm to detecting inter-epoch tie-points in historical images which do not rely on any auxiliary data. Using SIFT-detected keypoints we perform matching across epochs by interchangeably estimating and imposing that points follow two mathematical models: at first a 2D spatial similarity, then a 3D spatial similarity. We import GCPs to quantitatively evaluate our results with Digital Elevation Models (DEM) of differences (abbreviated as DoD) in absolute reference frame, and compare the results of our method with other 2 methods that use either the traditional SIFT or few virtual GCPs. The experiments show that far more correct inter-epoch tie-points can be extracted with our guided technique. Qualitative and quantitative results are reported. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) This study aims to compare inundation in two potholes using Annualized Agricultural Non-Point Source Pollution model (AnnAGNPS) with three Digital Elevation Models (DEMs): a 1 m DEM prepared from the LiDAR data which is readily available for the state of Iowa, USGS 1/9 arc-second DEM (∼3 m) which covers about 25% of the conterminous U.S. and USGS 1/3 arc-second DEM (∼10 m) which covers the entire USA. In this study, we found that the variations in water depth and presence/absence of ponding in the potholes of size greater than 1 ha can be predicted using USGS DEMs. The estimates of average water depths using USGS 3 m DEM was found to be 6% and 2% lower than the 1 m LiDAR DEM and the estimates of average water depths using USGS 10 m DEM was found to be 7% and 12% higher than the 1 m LiDAR DEM for the Walnut and Bunny potholes, respectively. Attempts at ensuring water availability has been formulated using standard water models. This study developed a water balance model using Remote Sensing and GIS techniques during periods of water surplus and deficit across pre-millennium (1996 – 2000) and the post-millennium (2010 – 2014) periods within an urbanized Sub-Saharan city. Digital Elevation Model of the basin was prepared to generate flow direction and to delimit the watershed using ArcHydro tools in ArcGIS 10.3. Supervised classification was used to delineate the landuse classes from Landsat imageries. The result revealed that 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2010 and 2013 were periods of water deficit, while 1999, 2011, 2012 and 2014 were periods of water surplus. This study affirmed the need to reactivate institutional frameworks that are responsible for assessment, conservation, management and planning of water resources for sustainable utilization.
