[Termes IGN] potentiel de pesanteur terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) This study emphasizes that the harmonic downward continuation of an external representation of the Earth’s gravity potential to sea level through the topographic masses implies a topographic bias. It is shown that the bias is only dependent on the topographic density along the geocentric radius at the computation point. The bias corresponds to the combined topographic geoid effect, i.e., the sum of the direct and indirect topographic effects. For a laterally variable topographic density function, the combined geoid effect is proportional to terms of powers two and three of the topographic height, while all higher order terms vanish. The result is useful in geoid determination by analytical continuation, e.g., from an Earth gravity model, Stokes’s formula or a combination thereof. [Termes IGN] problème inverseRésumé : (Auteur) In many geoscientific applications, one needs to recover the quantities of interest from indirect observations blurred by colored noise. Such quantities often correspond to the values of bounded linear functionals acting on the solution of some observation equation. For example, various quantities are derived from harmonic coefficients of the Earth’s gravity potential. Each such coefficient is the value of the corresponding linear functional. The goal of this paper is to discuss new means to use information about the noise covariance structure, which allows order-optimal estimation of the functionals of interest and does not involve a covariance operator directly in the estimation process. It is done on the basis of a balancing principle for the choice of the regularization parameter, which is new in geoscientific applications. A number of tests demonstrate its applicability. In particular, we could find appropriate regularization parameters by knowing a small part of the gravitational field on the Earth’s surface with high precision and reconstructing the rest globally by downward continuation from satellite data. [Termes IGN] variationRésumé : (Auteur) This work is dedicated to the wavelet modeling of regional and temporal variations of the Earth’s gravitational potential observed by the GRACE (gravity recovery and climate experiment) satellite mission. In the first part, all required mathematical tools and methods involving spherical wavelets are provided. Then, we apply our method to monthly GRACE gravity fields. A strong seasonal signal can be identified which is restricted to areas where large-scale redistributions of continental water mass are expected. This assumption is analyzed and verified by comparing the time-series of regionally obtained wavelet coefficients of the gravitational signal originating from hydrology models and the gravitational potential observed by GRACE. The results are in good agreement with previous studies and illustrate that wavelets are an appropriate tool to investigate regional effects in the Earth’s gravitational field. [Termes IGN] système de référence localRésumé : (Auteur) The problem of "global height datum unification" is solved in the gravity potential space based on: (1) high-resolution local gravity field modeling, (2) geocentric coordinates of the reference benchmark, and (3) a known value of the geoid's potential. The high-resolution local gravity field model is derived based on a solution of the fixed-free two-boundary-value problem of the Earth's gravity field using (a) potential difference values (from precise leveling), (b) modulus of the gravity vector (from gravimetry), (c) astronomical longitude and latitude (from geodetic astronomy and/or combination of (GNSS) Global Navigation Satellite System observations with total station measurements), (d) and satellite altimetry. Knowing the height of the reference benchmark in the national height system and its geocentric GNSS coordinates, and using the derived high-resolution local gravity field model, the gravity potential value of the zero point of the height system is computed. The difference between the derived gravity potential value of the zero point of the height system and the geoid's potential value is computed. This potential difference gives the offset of the zero point of the height system from geoid in the "potential space", which is transferred into "geometry space" using the transformation formula derived in this paper. The method was applied to the computation of the offset of the zero point of the Iranian height datum from the geoid's potential value W0=62636855.8 m 2/S2 . According to the geometry space computations, the height datum of Iran is 0.09 m below the geoid.
