[Vedettes matières IGN] CartologieRésumé : (Auteur) Even maps that strive for a precise representation of spatial relationships use techniques of distortion to embed a geographic extent within a two-dimensional plane – be it a page or a screen. The graphical design of geospatial information does however conform to a consensus around the conceptual limits of that distortion, with an overall design framework that constrains the design to ensure comprehension and the effective recognition of geographic entities and relations. Although constraints are necessary, we argue that the advent of digital technology, particularly in mobile mapping, warrants re-examination of the parameters of these distortions. Here we introduce the concept of ‘the bounds of distortion’ as a device for considering the conceptual boundaries of map design, and as a foundation for further work to investigate how these bounds may be redefined to better support map users with more effective graphical information. The focus here is navigational information, and in particular urban navigation and interaction with the graphical representation of urban geography and public transport networks. [Termes IGN] séquence d'imagesRésumé : (auteur) In this paper, the problem of automated scene understanding by tracking and predicting paths for multiple humans is tackled, with a new methodology using data from a single, fixed camera monitoring the environment. Our main idea is to build goal-oriented prior motion models that could drive both the tracking and path prediction algorithms, based on a coarse-to-fine modeling of the target goal. To implement this idea, we use a dataset of training video sequences with associated ground-truth trajectories and from which we extract hierarchically a set of key locations. These key locations may correspond to exit/entrance zones in the observed scene, or to crossroads where trajectories have often abrupt changes of direction. A simple heuristic allows us to make piecewise associations of the ground-truth trajectories to the key locations, and we use these data to learn one statistical motion model per key location, based on the variations of the trajectories in the training data and on a regularizing prior over the models spatial variations. We illustrate how to use these motion priors within an interacting multiple model scheme for target tracking and path prediction, and we finally evaluate this methodology with experiments on common datasets for tracking algorithms comparison. [Termes IGN] valeur moyenneRésumé : (auteur) Linear feature matching is one of the crucial components for data conflation that sees its usefulness in updating existing data through the integration of newer data and in evaluating data accuracy. This article presents a simplified linear feature matching method to conflate historical and current road data. To measure the similarity, the shorter line median Hausdorff distance (SMHD), the absolute value of cosine similarity (aCS) of the weighted linear directional mean values, and topological relationships are adopted. The decision tree analysis is employed to derive thresholds for the SMHD and the aCS. To demonstrate the usefulness of the simple linear feature matching method, four models with incremental configurations are designed and tested: (1) Model 1: one-to-one matching based on the SMHD; (2) Model 2: matching with only the SMHD threshold; (3) Model 3: matching with the SMHD and the aCS thresholds; and (4) Model 4: matching with the SMHD, the aCS, and topological relationships. These experiments suggest that Model 2, which considers only distance, does not provide stable results, while Models 3 and 4, which consider direction and topological relationships, produce stable results with levels of accuracy around 90% and 95%, respectively. The results suggest that the proposed method is simple yet robust for linear feature matching.
