[Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) With recent increases in urban population and development, agricultural lands have been changed to residential areas and industrial settlements. Such urban population growth increases necessitate emerging relatively new strategies and forms in urban parks and landscape designs to meet today's economic, social, and ecological needs toward sustainable development. Urban agriculture is one of the strategies for achieving sustainable development and creating multi-purpose landscapes. Such an approach appears to partially solve the problem of agricultural land reduction and degradation. However, urban pollutants seem to hinder the development of such a sustainable concept in the cities. This research aimed to identify suitable locations for urban agriculture in urban green spaces according to various contamination criteria and the uniform distribution of the green spaces in Mashhad, Iran. In this research, using an Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and a Geographic Information System (GIS) facilitated the decision-making process. It also determined the importance of the land use criteria for urban agricultural development. The results showed that the most suitable areas for urban agricultural development with the least impact of pollutants in Mashhad were the suburbs, especially in the northeast and southeast parts. These research results have practical implications for planning urban agricultural development at the city level across the world. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) Rapid urbanization and population growth are the main problems faced by developing countries that lead to natural resource depletion in the periphery of the city. This research attempts to analyze the impacts of urban land use land cover (LULC) change on land surface temperature (LST) from 1991 to 2021 in Jimma city, southwestern Ethiopia. Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) 1991, Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM +) 2005, and Landsat-8 Operational land imagery (OLI)/Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) 2021 were used in this study. Multispectral bands and thermal infrared bands of Landsat images were used to calculate LULC change, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), normalized difference built-up index (NDBI), and LST. The LULC of the study area was classified using a supervised classification method with the maximum likelihood algorithm. The results of this study clearly showed that there is a negative correlation between vegetation cover and LST. The decrease in vegetation coverage and expansion of impervious surfaces lead to elevated LST in urban areas. The loss of vegetation cover contributed to the increasing trend of LST. Moreover, the conversion of vegetation cover to impervious surfaces aggravates the problem of LST. The results revealed that the built-up area was increased at a rate of 0.4 km2/year from 1991 to 2021. The vegetation cover in the city declined due to urban expansion to the periphery of the city. Consequently, the dense vegetation and sparse vegetation were converted into built-up areas by approximately 5.2 km2 during the study period. The mean LST of the study area increased by 10.3 °C from 1991 to 2021 during the winter season in daytime. To improve the problems of climate change around urban areas, all stakeholders should work together to increase the urban green space coverage, which will contribute a significant role in mitigating LST and the urban heat island effect. More specifically, all residents could be accessible to public green spaces around big cities. [Termes IGN] ville durableRésumé : (auteur) This study was undertaken to be a remedy to urban water scarcity phenomena having escalated consequences with the contemporaneous effects of climate change and over-urbanization. Hence, a broad list of mitigation strategies comprising 44 action plans under seven dimensions was assessed depending upon five constraints (i.e., cost-effectiveness, time/effort required, feasibility, primary benefit, and secondary benefits). To realize the overarching aim of this research, the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) each subjected to the fuzzy set theory were employed. In this regard, the fuzzy AHP was utilized for determining the weights of constraining criteria, while the prioritization of the strategies was performed via the fuzzy TOPSIS. The results revealed that the primary benefit is the most prevailing criterion compared to its counterparts. In addition, procuring organized land use planning and limiting new growth in urban areas was found as the most promising strategy to combat urban water scarcity phenomena. The findings further highlighted the effectiveness of conducting integrated water resource planning against climate change and fostering the use of sustainable materials domestically in not only mitigating urban water scarcity but also increasing the resiliency and sustainability of the urbanized cities. However, the complexity of urban context and its indirect interaction with traffic flow deepen the difficulty of exploring their relationship. This study proposes a geo-semantic framework first to generate semantic representations of multi-hierarchical urban context and street-level traffic flow, and then investigate their mutual correlation and predictability using a novel semantic matching method. The results demonstrate that each street is associated with its multi-hierarchical spatial signatures of urban context and street-level temporal signatures of traffic flow. The correlation between urban context and traffic flow displays higher values after semantic matching than those in multi-hierarchies. Moreover, we found that utilizing traffic flow to predict urban context results in better accuracy than the reversed prediction. The results of signature analysis and relationship exploration can contribute to a deeper understanding of context-aware transportation research.
