[Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) In the future, planners will be able to show people phototextured 3D dynamic computer models of what their city will look like after a proposed change. Computational power enables instant comparison of alternative representations. This capability provides decision-makers with unprecedented flexibility. Today, a realistic visualisation requires that images of specific building facades, vegetation and other elements of the urban landscape are collected and rectified. Therefore, the greatest remaining technical and economical challenge is the creation of good quality data. Photogrammetry has an important enabling role to play in this. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) The author propose an approach to automatic recovery of a realistic 3D surface from photos or videos. There is no need whatsoever for measurements in the scene or calibration procedures. It is just as easy to model a small object (using a macro lens), as to model a complete building or even a whole landscape. The method thus offers a previously unknown flexilbility in 3D model acquisition, accompanied by a decrease in cost. This flexibility opens the way to many new applications. [Termes IGN] visualisationRésumé : (Editeur) This tutorial survey brings together two lines of research and development whose interaction promises to have significant practical impact on the area of spatial information processing in the near future: geographic information systems (GIS) and geometric computation or, more particularly, geometric algorithms and spatial data structures. In nine uniformly structured and coherent chapters, the authors present a unique survey ranging from the history and basic characteristics to current issues of precision and robustness of geometric computing. This textbook is ideally suited for advanced courses on GIS and applied geometric algorithms. Research and design professionals active in the area will find it valuable as a state-of-the-art. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) The demand for accurate 3D mapping of our built environment is increasing. Advanced CAD and Internet tools enable proper visualisation. The mapping ranges from city models to detailed models of individual buildings. Buildings show straight edges and planar faces. For mapping these polyhedral objects, it is advantageous to use line-photogrammetry instead of point photogrammetry. This method needs fewer images, while it improves the precision. Novel line-photogrammetric bundle adjustment approach is presented.
