[Termes IGN] rivièreRésumé : (Auteur) The manual production of vector maps from digital imagery can be a time consuming and costly process. Developing tools to automate this task for specific features, such as roads, has become an important research topic. The purpose of this paper was to present a technique for the semi-automatic extraction of multiple pixel width river features appearing in high resolution satellite imagery. This was accomplished using a two stage, multi resolution procedure. Initial river extraction was performed on low resolution (SPOT multispectral 20 m) imagery. The results from this low resolution extraction were then refined on higher resolution (KFA 1000. panchromatic. 5m) imagery to produce a detailed outline of the channel banks. To perform low resolution extraction a cost surface was generated to represent the combined local evidence of the presence of a river feature. The local evidence of a river was evaluated based on the results of a number of simple operators. Then, with user specified start and end points for the network, rivers were extracted by performing a least cost path search across this surface using the A* algorithm. The low resolution results were transferred to the high resolution imagery as closed contours which provided an estimate of the channel banks. These contours were then fit to the channel banks using the dynamic contours (or snakes) technique. [Termes IGN] rivièreRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, a new method is described for generalizing lines that makes use of a geometric transformation and the DouglasPeucker method for selection and elimination of the primary line points. The selected points are assembled into segments. In each segment, the points are analysed to determine whether they should be eliminated or whether a new point should be inserted. In the segments where a new point is generated, it is possible to optimize the length or area of the line after generalization. The process terminates when the generalized line maintains the required accuracy. [Termes IGN] système multi-agentsIndex. décimale : 50.00 Environnement Résumé : (auteur) This book which is written by recognised specialists of ecosystems and environment modeling is dedicated to students and scientists concerned by environment questions who wish to be able to model or to understand models and to have clear insights into the different systemic approaches of ecosystems and environment modelling. Particularly, they will find pedagogic descriptions and useful references about climatic models, forest evolutions, dynamics of populations, utilisation of remote sensing for biosphere modeling, knowledge bases and reasoning mechanisms use for environment and ecosystems management, application of artificial intelligence as multi-agents simulations to try to describe ant to validate agents actions' considering parallel artificial worlds, applications of inverse methods (sentinel method) to retrieve pollutant sources. The techniques of scaling and fuzzy sets applications necessary to interpret environment data and some cautions in data manipulations due to possible ambiguities are also presented. The reader would have to realize that in a real interdisciplinary approach of environment which is considered now to be absolutely necessary to be able to respond to environment questions with a maximum of confidence in the different concerned domains, these different types of techniques and models would have to be necessary coupled and to interact in what is said complex systems modelling: these kind of models are the tools to try to represent and to imitate the real world for cognition and to give the probable evolutions of such systems which are the required evolution scenarios.
