[Termes IGN] vingtième siècleRésumé : (auteur) Burgos, in Spain, due to its geographical and historical importance, which made it a politically, militarily, and administratively key city in the configuration of Spain throughout the history of the country, has a large amount of cartographic documentation. Therefore, it has been necessary to carry out different phases of work to collect and analyze the cartographic material available, as well as to specify the maps and plans that would be used to convey and structure the cartography of Burgos during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. However, we must take into account in any study that, despite advances in technology, including machines used to digitize these artifacts, there remains a degree of error, so the display of the map that the researcher observes is not as reliable as it should be. Taking into account the hypothetical character of the accuracy of the maps collected and used in this study, and in order to achieve its goals, a thematic analysis through selection, geolocation, and comparison with the current city map based on different criteria is proposed. Thanks to the rich material, this case can be extrapolated to other cities in the country and the process of making up a map during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries can be known in a deeper way. [Termes IGN] SingapourRésumé : (auteur) Natural and human-made features are not exclusive in settlements but interact across time and space, placing the context in constant evolution. The purpose of this paper is to search for the influence of terrain, a natural feature, on the configuration of the street network, a human-made feature, by analysing the results of two transition states of cellular automata used to model street networks. This work uses data from open-source projects and open-source applications. The first transition state models the street network considering the neighbourhood rules and randomness, assuming the natural terrain and street are exclusive. The second transition state models the street network as the product of characteristics of the terrain, neighbourhood rules, and randomness, thus assuming the natural terrain and street network interacting with one another. The model is run thirteen times for four different cities by varying the terrain characteristics and calibrated by comparing the simulated street maps with recent street maps. The results are compared and found that the CA model with the second transition state yields better simulation results than the first transition state. In one of the four cities studied, the first transition state results are similar to a specific state of the second transition state, indicating a weak inter-connectedness between the terrain and the street network in the mega-city. Further research can reveal whether the amount of inter-connectedness is specific to the city’s terrain or size. The recognition of the inter-connectedness of the road to terrain can help plan for resilient human settlements. [Termes IGN] Vancouver (Colombie britannique)Résumé : (Auteur) This research study extends the Logic Scoring of Preference (LSP) as a general multicriteria evaluation (MCE) method by presenting and evaluating a new GIS.LSP method and software tool implemented within the geographic information systems (GIS) environment. For the evaluation and validation of the method and software tool, we describe a case study of urban densification suitability analysis using geospatial data for the Metro Vancouver Region, Canada. The criteria, LSP structures, and aggregators groups were developed from the perspective of urban developers who are key stakeholders in the densification process. We compare two group of aggregators and perform sensitivity and cost–suitability analysis of the LSP method by variation of input suitability scores, input attributes, and aggregators. The results indicate the GIS.LSP method is effective in providing a flexible and sensitive workflow to create realistic and justifiable outcomes from complex criteria that are bounded by stakeholders' goals and requirements. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) This paper couples a Forward Feature Selection algorithm with Random Forest (FFS-RF) to create a transition index map, which then guides the spatial allocation for the extrapolation of urban growth using a Cellular Automata model. We used Landsat imagery to generate land cover maps at the years 1998, 2008, and 2018 for the Tehran-Karaj Region (TKR) in Iran. The FFS-RF considered the independent variables of slope, altitude, and distances from urban, crop, greenery, barren, and roads. The FFS-RF revealed temporal non-stationary of drivers from 1998–2008 to 2008–2018. The FFS-RF detected that altitude and distance from greenery were the most important drivers of urban growth during 1998–2008, then distances from crop and barren were the most important drivers during 2008–2018. We used the Total Operating Characteristic to evaluate the transition index maps. Validation during 2008–2018 showed that FFS-RF produced a transition index map that had predictive power no better than an allocation of urban growth near existing urban. Simulation to 2060 extrapolated that Tehran, Karaj, and their adjacent cities will interconnect spatially to form a gigantic city-region. Our contribution to the debates consists of drawing on a literature review to develop a conceptual framework with the dimensions necessary for understanding urban governance processes and their dynamics; an urban governance configuration framework. We argue that this framework allows us to combine important dimensions (discourses, actor networks, knowledge and material processes) shaping urban development decision-making and outcomes in their social, economic and environmental domains, in a complex world. The main advantages of this approach are: first, it enables the analysis how complex decision-making is combined in a particular time and space, generating decisions and outcomes based on a variety of knowledge; second, it allows a comparative analysis of governance configurations across different places within the same city and between cities; and third, provides lessons on how urban governance could shift to more inclusive, sustainable forms of urban development.
