[Termes IGN] problème des valeurs limitesIndex. décimale : 30.40 Géodésie physique Résumé : (Auteur) In thé présent study, some aspects of thé geodetic détermination of vertical récent crustal movements and temporal changes of thé gravity field are considered. Based on data of type (repeated) absolute and relative gravity measurements and levellings (respectively temporal changes of observable potential différences and gravity between two defined epochs) a rigorous mathematical treatment gives rise to a boundary value problem of potential theory, which after its 1inearization is formally very similar to Molodensky's problem. Solutions of this time-dependent geodetic boundary value problem are derived for thé case of spatially continuous boundary data as well as for thé discrète case.
A substantial assumption for thé applicability of this theory is thé condition that levellings and gravity measurements refer to thé same epochs. In reducing observed gravity and spatial potential différences to fixed epochs some global geodynamic phenomena hâve to be considered, e.g. tides, changes of thé earth's rotation (polar motion, variations of thé angular velocity), etc. Nowadays many of thèse effects can be predicted with sufficient accuracy on thé basis of other observational data or theoretical models. In section 2 thé kinematical and dynamic in-fluences on thé boundary data (levellings and gravity measurements) induced by thé variable rotation of thé earth, displacements of thé lithospheric plates, and (solid earth, oceanic and atmospheric) tides are studied. It is shown that - besides earth and oceanic tides - also thé Chandlerian polar motion affects gravity observations significantly. In reviewing thé "astronomical correction" of levelling an additional correction term is found, taking account of thé permanent MoSo part of earth tides. Considering thé actual and possible future accuracy of gravity observations and levellings thé inertial Coriolis and Euler effects on thé terres-trial gravity field show to be insignificant in most cases. By reducing thé boundary data for thé predictable global geodynamic influences a modellable part of thé displacement field is separated, simultaneously leading to thé concept of a "quasi-stationary" gravity field and boundary surface.
Section 3 contains thé mathematical treatment of thé time-dependent geodetic boundary value problem on thé background of potential theory. After applying linear and, spherical approxima-tions as well as Molodensky's séries expansion, thé basic formulae for thé time-like distur-bances of thé gravity potential and modulus of gravity, radial (vertical) and horizontal dis-placements of thé boundary surface, and temporal changes of thé plumb line directions are derived (section 3.2); geometrical interprétations are given in section 3.2.5. It is shown that for thé détermination of real vertical crustal movements both repeated levellings and gravity observations are necessary, unless additional hypothèses are introduced. By thé hypothesis of a linear connection between temporal changes of gravity and potential différences essentially one type of boundary data is sufficient, leading to simplified procédures in determining verti-cal crustal movements (section 3.3). Another hypothesis assumes thé earth to behave like an elastic body (Love-Shida hypothesis, section 3.4); in contrast to tidal theory thé forces re-sponsible for other geodynamic phenomena are in général unknown, setting limitations to an extension of formulae known from tidal theory on thé application in crustal movement détermi-nation.
In section 4 thé discrète counterpart of thé (originally continuous) boundary value problem is studied. The collocation method (cross-covariance prédiction) is capable of combining différent types of observational data for deriving vertical crustal movements or temporal changes of thé gravity field. Local and global covariance models for thé most important func-tionals of thé time-like potential disturbance are discussed in sections 4.2.2 and 4.2.3. Finally in section 4.3 an integrated concept - taking pattern from thé "Integrated Geodesy"-concept of Krarup - is presented; by this général approach temporal changes of coordinates and thé gravity field from différences of ail possible types of geodetic observations with respect to two fixed epochs can be simultaneously determined.
Section 5 contains some comments on thé practical application as well as on extensions of thé models derived in thé présent study.Numéro de notice : 55569 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : POSITIONNEMENT Nature : Thèse étrangère Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=59875 Réservation

[Termes IGN] tectonique des plaquesRésumé : (Auteur) The analysis of repeated geodetic observations has become an important tool for the investigation of the kinematics of tectonic plate boundary zones. The most appropriate analytical method for such investigations of contemporary crustal deformation is the strain analysis, a method of differential geometry. In attempting to find an elegant mathematical formulation to describe plane strain, the use of complex analysis proves to be very advantageous. The analytical modeling of spatially and temporally continuous and discontinuous displacement fields is developed using least-squares approximation of generalized polynomials. Algebraic polynomials are proposed for the continuous approximation, whereas specifically designed step functions are used to model the discontinuities in space and time. A mathematical model of simultaneous network adjustment and strain approximation is elaborated. It yields a general analytical method which enables strain-rates, or accumulated strain and fault-slip, to be determined from various types of geodetic measurements. In contrast to the widely used observation method (Frank's method), this approach does not rely on repeated observations of the same observables. Resurveyed networks with common stations and non-identical design can be analyzed. The constraints incorporated by the approximation model allow strain estimation even when the network of some observation epochs suffer from formulation or configuration defects with respect to positions. Experiments with various graphical representations of strain are carried out. Strain pedal-curves and shear-rosettes expressing extension and shear in a given direction, plotted at equally spaced grid points, provide a comprehensive display of non-homogeneous strain-fields in space. Confidence regions associated with extension and shear in a given direction are plotted together with these strain figures. A software package 'CRUSTRAIN' is developed for the simultaneous adjustment and strain approximation and for the display of the estimated strain parameters. The method is first tested with synthetic data and then with a real kinematic network. The method is applied to the 1970-80 Hollister network, which had been observed by the U.S. Geological Survey. This application reveals the strength as well as the limitations of the proposed technique. An approximation model is evaluated which incorporates third-degree complex algebraic polynomials with four block translation terms in space and fifth-degree algebraic polynomials with three episodic terms in time. This approximation estimates co-seismic fault-slip and strain release associated with three moderate earthquakes which occurred in the Hollister area within the time interval in question.
