[Termes IGN] station GNSSRésumé : (Auteur) Simultaneous use of data repeated levelling measurements and continuous GNSS observations allows increasing the spatial resolution of geodynamics models. For this purpose, it is necessary to create a single network, a so-called hybrid network. This paper aims at examining the possibility of using scale-free network theory to determine the most relevant common points in hybrid networks using the distance criterion. Used on European network points: UELN (United European Levelling Network) and EPN (European Permanent GPS Network) and the regional network. In the hybrid network (UELN + EPN), 18 pseudo-nodal points with the highest number of links were identified. The accepted distance criterion shows that about 90 % of the EPN points can be used as common points. The application of the scale-free network theory allows determining the significance of points in a hybrid network. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (Auteur) Interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) allows for mapping of crustal deformation on land with high spatial resolution and precision in areas with high signal-to-noise ratios. Efforts to obtain precise displacement time series globally, however, are severely limited by radar path delays within the troposphere. The tropospheric delay is integrated along the full path length between the ground and the satellite, resulting in correlations between the interferometric phase and elevation that can vary dramatically in both space and time. We evaluate the performance of spatially variable, empirical removal of phase-elevation dependence within SAR interferograms through the use of the K -means clustering algorithm. We apply this method to both synthetic test data, as well as to C-band Sentinel-1a/b time series acquired over a large area in south-central Mexico along the Pacific coast and inland—an area with a large elevation gradient that is of particular interest to researchers studying tectonic- and anthropogenic-related deformation. We show that the clustering algorithm is able to identify cases where tropospheric properties vary across topographic divides, reducing total root mean square (rms) by an average of 50%, as opposed to a spatially constant phase-elevation correction, which has insignificant error reduction. Our approach also reduces tropospheric noise while preserving test signals in synthetic examples. Finally, we show the average standard deviation of the residuals from the best-fit linear rate decreases from approximately 3 to 1.5 cm, which corresponds to a change in the error on the best-fit linear rate from 0.94 to 0.63 cm/yr. [Termes IGN] séismeRésumé : (Auteur) After more than a decade of dispute and controversy, China and Nepal have finally agreed on the altitude of Mount Everest. The highest peak in the world, which lies on Nepal's border with Tibet in the Himalayas, stands at 8,848.86 meters, officials from the two countries announced on December 8, 2020. To relate this human and technique epic, open our columns to Gavin Schrock, consulting editor and land surveyor who interviewed several protagonists and to Khim Lal Gautam, leader of the Nepalese expedition in 2019. Bernard Flacelière, editor-in-chief of XYZ recalls here the forgotten mission of 1992. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (auteur) The IGS contribution to ITRF2020, based on the third IGS reprocessing campaign (repro3), comprises daily position estimates for 1905 globally distributed GNSS stations. As an essential step of the ITRF2020 preparation, a detailed analysis of the IGS repro3 station position time series has been carried out, including identification of offsets, modeling of post-seismic displacements, confrontation with deformation predicted by geophysical loading models, and characterization of systematic and random errors. This presentation covers the different aspects of this analysis, the methods used and the lessons learned. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (auteur) Nowadays, the time evolution of ITRF station positions is described by piece-wise linear models extended with exponential and logarithmic functions to account for post-seismic displacements. The ITRF2020 will also account for seasonal deformation by means of annual and semi-annual sine waves. However, part of the Earth’s surface deformation is not captured by those deterministic functions, such as inter-annual hydrological loading deformation, or high-frequency atmospheric loading deformation. To account for such aperiodic displacements, a reference frame in the form of a time series could be considered. This would require aperiodic motions of the different space geodetic stations to be tied in a common frame by means of co-motion constraints. The relevance of such constraints is however debatable. Indeed, common aperiodic movements between co-located space geodetic stations have thus far not been evidenced. This presentation describes the comparison of station position time series from the different space geodetic techniques in order to highlight whether or not common aperiodic movements can be detected at co-location sites. Those time series are extracted from the solutions provided by the techniques international services for the ITRF2014. They are first carefully aligned to a common reference frame in order to minimize differential network effect. Then, they are cleaned from linear, post-seismic and periodic signals (including seasonal deformation and technique systematic errors). Residual time series from co-located stations are finally confronted with each other.
