[Termes IGN] occupation du solRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we study the problem of feature extraction for knowledge transfer between multiple remotely sensed images in the context of land-cover classification. Several factors such as illumination, atmospheric, and ground conditions cause radiometric differences between images of similar scenes acquired on different geographical areas or over the same scene but at different time instants. Accordingly, a change in the probability distributions of the classes is observed. The purpose of this work is to statistically align in the feature space an image of interest that still has to be classified (the target image) to another image whose ground truth is already available (the source image). Following a specifically designed feature extraction step applied to both images, we show that classifiers trained on the source image can successfully predict the classes of the target image despite the shift that has occurred. In this context, we analyze a recently proposed domain adaptation method aiming at reducing the distance between domains, Transfer Component Analysis, and assess the potential of its unsupervised and semisupervised implementations. In particular, with a dedicated study of its key additional objectives, namely the alignment of the projection with the labels and the preservation of the local data structures, we demonstrate the advantages of Semisupervised Transfer Component Analysis. We compare this approach with other both linear and kernel-based feature extraction techniques. Experiments on multi- and hyperspectral acquisitions show remarkable cross- image classification performances for the considered strategy, thus confirming its suitability when applied to remotely sensed images. [Termes IGN] visualisation cartographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The geospatial field significantly influences the development of the environmental domain, including a wide range of geospatial and cartographic information systems, such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Multimedia Atlas Information Systems (MAIS) and more recently web-based GIS (Web-GIS). In this context, we introduce web-based environmental geospatial information systems (Web-EGIS) as a special case of Web-GIS, aiming to integrate the functionalities of geospatial information systems with the enormous quantity of specialized, distributed and highly heterogeneous environmental geo-referenced data and services. We define three main characteristics of the Web-EGIS. The first is a generic hypercube-based data organization and visualization. The next characteristic is a standard-based, three-tier service-oriented architecture. The third and last characteristic is the traceability of the architectural and design decisions, for which we introduce the new concept of an ‘Environmental Application Context’, arguing that not only the functional but also the non-functional requirements (NFRs) have an important role in defining the architecture, software components and data services of such systems. In a nutshell, a Web-EGIS is characterized by a coherent user experience through the hypercube-based visualization concept, technically supported by a service-oriented architecture that is structured according to an extensive analysis of NFRs. On this basis, we introduce the Geodata visualization and interactive training environment (GeoVITe) Platform for Interdisciplinary Environmental Research as a reference implementation of a Web-EGIS with its basic design requirements, integrative hypercube-based visualization for heterogeneous data sources, extended web cartography functionalities, and its de facto system architecture. The concept of the hypercube-based visualization is better transferred to the system architecture by understanding the ‘Environmental Application Context’ of this particular Web-EGIS, which also makes it easier to maintain and enhance. The resulting system is a support platform for research activities in the environmental domain. [Termes IGN] squelettisationRésumé : (Auteur) Crowdsourcing geospatial data mainly collected by public citizens have brought about a profound transformation on data acquisition and utilization. However, the unpredictable positional accuracies, unstructured semantic descriptions, and invalid spatial relations occur to crowdsourcing geospatial data, causing difficulties for conflating heterogeneous data sets collected by different professional agencies or volunteers. We thus propose a novel pattern-mining approach to conflate crowdsourcing road networks with points of interest (POIs) geometrically and semantically. The proposed method mines the geometric patterns between road networks and POIs respectively and generates the pattern-related skeleton graphs for them. Then, corresponding points are determined between the two skeleton graphs to align POIs and road networks geometrically, and the road-related semantic data between the associated POIs and the road segments are compared to check the data quality of POIs and infer the road names of the road segments. Experimental results show the advantages of our proposed method, demonstrating a functional and promising solution for enriching POIs and road network geometrically and semantically. [Termes IGN] visualisation de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Clustering allows considering groups of similar data elements at a higher level of abstraction. This facilitates the extraction of patterns and useful information from large amounts of spatio-temporal data. Till now, most studies have focused on the extraction of patterns from a spatial or a temporal aspect. Here we use the Bregman block average co-clustering algorithm with I-divergence (BBAC_I) to enable the simultaneous analysis of spatial and temporal patterns in geo-referenced time series (time evolving values of a property observed at fixed geographical locations). In addition, we present three geovisualization techniques to fully explore the co-clustering results: heatmaps offer a straightforward overview of the results; small multiples display the spatial and temporal patterns in geographic maps; ringmaps illustrate the temporal patterns associated to cyclic timestamps. To illustrate this study, we used Dutch daily average temperature data collected at 28 weather stations from 1992 to 2011. The co-clustering algorithm was applied hierarchically to understand the spatio-temporal patterns found in the data at the yearly, monthly and daily resolutions. Results pointed out that there is a transition in temperature patterns from northeast to southwest and from ‘cold’ to ‘hot’ years/months/days with only 3 years belonging to ‘cool’ or ‘cold’ years. Because of its characteristics, this newly introduced algorithm can concurrently analyse spatial and temporal patterns by identifying location-timestamp co-clusters that contain values that are similar along both the spatial and the temporal dimensions.
