[Termes IGN] triangulation localeRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper a new triangulation-based laser scanner is presented which has a simple, yet strong, flexible and low-cost structure. A digital camera and three laser line projectors are the main components of the system. One of the laser projectors is positioned vertically, while the other two are horizontal. The former scans the object, whereas the latter two establish an optical frame which is used, in part, to define the plane containing the vertical laser projector at each step of scanning. At each step, an image is taken which includes the object along with the projected laser lines. By intersecting the vertical and horizontal lines a couple of points are formed which, along with the calibration information of the system, enable the extraction of the object coordinates. Results of the tests carried out show that by using an optical frame of this nature, the process of scanning is greatly facilitated. That is, the scanner can easily be used to scan objects of different size and dimensions. Within the current configuration, the system enables measurements with an accuracy of 1/1600. Also, as the system has a rigorous basis, its accuracy can be increased if improved hardware is provided. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) Novel photogrammetric sensors open up new possibilities for measuring the radiometric and geometric properties of the Earth’s surface. To ensure optimal use of these complex, rapidly developing, diverse systems, it is becoming crucial to have a means of calibrating and validating complete imaging systems, and even production lines, in operational conditions. This paper presents a calibration and validation methodology based on a permanent test site (Sjökulla) and demonstrates its use in a calibration and validation campaign for a large-format photogrammetric imaging system, the Intergraph DMC. The major objective of the campaign was to perform acceptance testing of the new camera system procured by the National Land Survey of Finland. The evaluation proved the high geometric and radiometric performance of the imaging system and demonstrated the potential of spectrodirectional photogrammetric 3D imaging. The usability aspects of test site calibration and validation from the point of view of a mapping organisation were also considered. [Termes IGN] qualité géométrique (image)Résumé : (Auteur) The aim of this paper was to extend the method of downscaling cokriging for image fusion by making the method spatially adaptive in that the filter parameters (cokriging weights) can change across the image. The method can adapt itself to the usual statistical non-homogeneity (spatially variable mean, variance and correlation length) of a satellite sensor image that covers an area with different spatial patterns of geographical objects or different terrain types. The solution adopted was to estimate the models of covariances and cross-covariances (or semivariograms and cross-semivariograms) by the same procedure as described in Pardo-Iguzquiza et al. (2006) but with the method applied locally instead of globally. The correct implementation of this local estimation is the key for computational feasibility and prediction efficiency. Two parameters to be taken into account are the grid of locations on which a moving window is centred (local modelling is performed inside this window) and the size of this moving window. With respect to the latter parameter, there is a trade-off between a size small enough to make the procedure locally adaptive and large enough to produce reliable statistical estimates. The computational burden will impose limits to the distance between grid points on which the local moving window is centred. A case study with Landsat ETM+ images was used to show the implementation of the method and the result was evaluated using several statistics widely used for assessing the quality of a fused image, apart from its visual appearance. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3D du bâtiRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a method to assess the geometric quality of 3D building models. The quality depends on properties of the input data and the processing steps. Insight in the quality of 3D models is important for users to judge whether the models can be used in their specific applications. Without a proper quality description it is likely that the building models are either treated as correct or considered as useless because the quality is unknown. In our research we analyse how the quality parameters of the input data affect the quality of the 3D models. The 3D models have been reconstructed from dense airborne laser scanner data of about 20 pts/m2. A target based graph matching approach has been used to relate specific data features to general building knowledge. The paper presents a theoretical and an empirical approach to identify strong parts and shortcomings in 3D building models reconstructed from airborne laser scanning data without the use of reference measurements. Our method is tested on three different scenes to show that a proper quality description is essential to correctly judge the quality of the models.
