[Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (auteur) This report deals with research work how digital terrain models can automatically be checked and improved. Test material consisting of three DTMs of different acquisition methods has been prepared, and six research groups applied their methods with the delivered DTMs. The provided imagery is suitable for the production of orthoimages and serves also as auxiliary material for the checking and improving of DTMs. The results of the participants were analyzed by means of accurate reference material with regard to accuracy. Furthermore, the completeness and degree of automation at the
different methods have been evaluated. The report describes in detail the delivered test material, the characteristics of the different methods, the strategy in the evaluation including the applied accuracy measures. The improving of DTMs is
also possible to a large extent. A thematic map can give a quick overview where additional measurements are required. The applied methods are compared by means of the accuracy measures derived both from the delivered material and from the accurate reference data of the pilot centre. One method, which derives correction for the delivered DTM by means of parallaxes between two overlapping orthoimages, was applied to all test areas and achieved the best results. The three DTMs
could be tested with an accuracy of σh=0.015% of the flying height. Proposals for future practical work and further investigations are given. The results of this investigation will also be disseminated in educational seminars and e-learning courses of the EuroSDR. The contributions of the participating research groups are attached in the appendix of the report.

By these new high resolution satellite data, remote sensing technologies can be successfully applied to more application areas such as extracting road network from high resolution satellite images. This paper proposes a newly developed approach to extract a road network from high resolution satellite images. The approach is based on the binary and greyscale mathematical morphology and a line segment match method. First, the outline of road network is detected based on the grey morphological characteristics. Then, the basic road network is detected by the line segment match method. Next, the detected basic road network is processed based on the knowledge about the roads and binary mathematical morphological methods. Finally, visual analysis and three indicators are used to evaluate the accuracy of the extracted road networks. The results of the accuracy evaluation demonstrate that the developed road network extraction approach can provide both good visual effect and high positional accuracy. [Termes IGN] validation des donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) The Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) system acquires multispectral images ranging from the visible to thermal infrared region. The ASTER system consists of three subsystems: visible and near-infrared (VNIR), short-wave infrared (SWIR) and thermal infrared (TIR) radiometers. The VNIR subsystem has a backward-viewing telescope as well as a nadir one. To deliver data products of high quality from the viewpoint of geolocation and hand-to-hand registration performance, a fundamental program, called Level-1 data processing, has been developed for images obtained using four telescopes with a cross-track pointing function. In this work, the methodology of the geometric validation is first described. Next, the image quality of ASTER data products is evaluated in view of the geometric performance over a period of four years. The hand-to-hand registration accuracy in the subsystem is better than 0.1 pixels and that between subsystems is better than 0.2 pixels. This means that the geometric database is determined accurately and the image matching method based on a cross-correlation function is effective in the operational usage. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a novel approach to change detection in multitemporal synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. The proposed approach exploits a wavelet-based multiscale decomposition of the log-ratio image (obtained by a comparison of the original multitemporal data) aimed at achieving different scales (levels) of representation of the change signal. Each scale is characterized by a different tradeoff between speckle reduction and preservation of geometrical details. For each pixel, a subset of reliable scales is identified on the basis of a local statistic measure applied to scale-dependent log-ratio images. The final change detection result is obtained according to an adaptive scale-driven fusion algorithm. Experimental results obtained on multitemporal SAR images acquired by the ERS-1 satellite confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
