Note de contenu : 1. [Termes IGN] surveillance géologiqueRésumé : (auteur) This paper presents a novel method for retrieving three-dimensional (3-D) displacement fields of mining areas from a single interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) pair. This method fully exploits the mechanism of mining subsidence, specifically the proportional relationship between the horizontal displacement and horizontal gradient of vertical displacements caused by underground mining. This method overcomes the limitations of conventional InSAR techniques that can only measure one-dimensional (1-D) deformation of mining area along the radar line-of-sight direction. The proposed method is first validated with simulated 3-D displacement fields, which are obtained by the FLAC3D software. The root mean square errors of the 3-D displacements retrieved by the proposed method are 13.7, 27.6 and 3.6 mm for the West–East, North–South, and Up–Down components, respectively. We then apply the proposed method to estimate the 3-D displacements of the Qianyingzi and the Xuzhou coal mines in China, respectively, each along with two Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) Phased Array Type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar images. Results show that the estimated 3-D displacement is highly consistent with that of the field surveying. This demonstrates that the proposed method is an effective approach for retrieving 3-D mining displacement fields and will play an important role in mining-related hazard prevention and environment assessment under limited InSAR acquisitions. [Termes IGN] positionnement par GPSRésumé : (Auteur) We present a new approach to estimate precise long-term vertical land motion (VLM) based on double-differences of long tide gauge (TG) and short altimetry data. We identify and difference rates of pairs of highly correlated sea level records providing relative VLM estimates that are less dependent on record length and benefit from reduced uncertainty and mitigated biases (e.g. altimeter drift). This approach also overcomes the key limitation of previous techniques in that it is not geographically limited to semi-enclosed seas and can thus be applied to estimate VLM at TGs along any coast, provided data of sufficient quality are available. Using this approach, we have estimated VLM at a global set of 86 TGs with a median precision of 0.7 mm/year in a conventional reference frame. These estimates were compared to previous VLM estimates at TGs in the Baltic Sea and to estimates from co-located Global Positioning System (GPS) stations and Glacial Isostatic Adjustment (GIA) predictions. Differences with respect to the GPS and VLM estimates from previous studies resulted in a scatter of around 0.6 mm/year. Differences with respect to GIA predictions had a larger scatter in excess of 1 mm/year. Until satellite altimetry records reach enough length to estimate precise VLM at each TG, this new approach constitutes a substantial advance in the geodetic monitoring of TGs with major applications in long-term sea level change and climate change studies. [Termes IGN] Nouvelle-ZélandeRésumé : (Auteur) Investigations in long‐term instrumental tidal records reveal that 20th century sea level along the coast of New Zealand is rising at 1.46 ± 0.10 mm/yr in agreement with the regional rates from southern Australia and Tasmania. We extend the advanced altimeter‐gauge approach of combining satellite altimetry and tide gauge data with constraint equations from long‐term adjacent tide gauge records to assess its performance in open seas and to explore the impact of vertical land motion on the observed relative sea level. This approach has again proven to be a robust method with an accuracy of 0.4 mm/yr. While no clear sea level rise pattern can be inferred once the tide gauge apparent sea level trends are corrected for vertical land motions from GPS, the advanced altimeter‐gauge and geological vertical rates are completely consistent and reveal three temporal phases of sea level rise marked by an increase from 1.46 ± 0.10 mm/yr to 1.72 ± 0.10 mm/yr during the period (1900–1936), followed by a decrease to 1.48 ± 0.10 mm/yr during the period (1936–1956), and a substantial increase to 2.60 ± 0.10 mm/yr during the period (1956–1975). In contrast, the 20th century microfossil proxy records of absolute sea level rise display twice the tide gauge sea level rise rate of 3.17 ± 0.30 mm/yr and 3.28 ± 0.45 mm/yr, respectively, once salt‐marsh records are corrected using GPS and geological vertical rates. Differential autocompaction and transfer functions are possible factors, which need further investigation. [Termes IGN] varianceRésumé : (auteur) This paper investigates the precision of the estimation of geophysical fluid load deformation computed from GRACE space gravity, GPS vertical displacement and geophysical fluids models [Global Circulation Models (GCMs) for ocean, atmosphere and hydrology], using the three-cornered hat method. This method allows the estimation of the variance of the errors of each technique, when the same quantity is monitored by three instruments with independent errors. Applied on a network of stations, several points of view can be considered: the technique level (in order to determine the error of each technique: GRACE, GPS and GCMs), the solution level (allowing to compare the precision of the same technique when different strategies/models are used), and the station level (in order to emphasize local anomalies and geographical patterns). In particular, our results show a precision of the loading vertical displacement at the level of 1 mm when using GRACE or the fluid models, and of 2 mm using GPS. We do not find significant differences between the precision of different solutions of the same techniques, even when there are strong differences in the data processing.
