[Termes IGN] sismicitéRésumé : (auteur) Small transient stress perturbations are prone to trigger (micro)seismicity. In the Earth's crust, these stress perturbations can be caused by various sources such as the passage of seismic waves, forcing by tides, or hydrological seasonal loads. A better understanding of the dynamic of earthquake triggering by stress perturbations is essential to improve our understanding of earthquake physics and our consideration of seismic hazard. Here, we study an experimental sandstone-gouge-filled fault system undergoing combined far field loading and periodic stress perturbations (of variable amplitude and frequency) at crustal pressure conditions. Microseismicity—in the form of acoustic emissions (AEs)—strains, and stresses, are continuously recorded in order to study the response of microseismicity as a function of loading rate, amplitude, and frequency of a periodic stress perturbation. The observed AE distributions do not follow the predictions of either a Coulomb failure model, taking into account both constant loading and oscillation-induced strain rates, or a rate and state model. A susceptibility of the system's AE response to the amplitude of the confinement pressure perturbation is estimated, which highlights a linear relation between confinement pressure amplitude and the AE response amplitude, observations which agree with recent higher frequency experimental results on dynamic triggering. The magnitude-frequency distribution of AEs is also computed. The Gutenberg-Richter b-value oscillates with stress oscillations. Our experiments may help complement our understanding of the influence of low inertia stress phenomena on the distribution of seismicity, such as observations of dynamic triggering and seismicity modulation by tides or hydrological loading. In China, there are countless earthquakes every year, which greatly affect the country’s economic level and development as well as the people’s life and health. The analysis of seismic activity is becoming more and more significant. In this article, the spatial distribution of China’s seismic activities was analyzed by using the provincial seismic data from 1970 to 2013. On the basis of spatial autocorrelation analysis theory, Global Moran’s I, Local Moran’s I, and the Local Indicators of Spatial Association are used to measure the geospatial distribution characteristics of China’s seismic activities. The research results show that earthquakes in mainland China have significant global autocorrelation characteristics as a whole, and the global autocorrelation coefficients are all positive. [Termes IGN] sismologieRésumé : (auteur) We investigate the initiation phase of the 2014 Mw8.1 Iquique earthquake in northern Chile. In particular, we focus on the month preceding the mainshock, a time period known to exhibit an intensification of the seismic and aseismic activity in the region. The goal is to estimate the time-evolution and partitioning of seismic and aseismic slip during the preparatory phase of the mainshock. To do so, we develop a Bayesian inversion scheme to infer the spatio-temporal evolution of pre-slip from position time-series along with the corresponding uncertainty. To extract the aseismic component to the pre-seismic motion, we correct geodetic observations from the displacement induced by foreshocks. We find that aseismic slip accounts for ∼80 percents of the slip budget. That aseismic slip takes the form of a slow-slip events occurring between 20 to 5 days before the future mainshock. This time-evolution is not consistent with self-accelerating fault slip, a model that is often invoked to explain earthquake nucleation. Instead, the slow-slip event seems to have interacted with the foreshock sequence such that the foreshocks contributed to the arrest of aseismic slip. In addition, we observe some evidence of late self-accelerating slip, but associated with large uncertainties, making it difficult to assess its reliability from our observations alone. [Termes IGN] séismeRésumé : (auteur) En mai 2018, l’île de Mayotte a été touchée par une crise sismique sans précédent, suivie en juillet 2018 par des déplacements de surface à terre anormaux. En cumulé, du 1er juillet 2018 au 31 décembre 2021, les déplacements horizontaux étaient d’environ 21 à 25 cm vers l’est, et la subsidence d’environ 10 à 19 cm. L’étude des données GNSS à terre, et leur modélisation couplée aux données des capteurs de pression en mer, ont permis de conclure à une origine magmatique de la crise sismique avec la déflation d’une source profonde à l’est de Mayotte, confirmée en mai 2019 par la découverte d’une éruption sous-marine, à 50 km au large de Mayotte ([Feuillet et al., 2021]). Malgré une géométrie de réseau non optimale et des récepteurs éloignés de la source, les données GNSS ont permis de suivre la dynamique profonde du transfert magmatique, via la surveillance des flux volumiques.
