The meeting was held from July 8 to 18, 2019 in Montreal, Canada, with the theme being the celebration of the centennial of the establishment of the IUGG. The centennial was also a good opportunity to look forward to the next century, as reflected in the title of this volume. The papers in this volume represent a cross-section of present activity in geodesy, and highlight the future directions in the field as we begin the second century of the IUGG. During the meeting, the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) organized one Union Symposium, 6 IAG Symposia, 7 Joint Symposia with other associations, and 20 business meetings. In addition, IAG co-sponsored 8 Union Symposia and 15 Joint Symposia. In total, 3952 participants registered, 437 of them with IAG priority. In total, there were 234 symposia and 18 Workshops with 4580 presentations, of which 469 were in IAG-associated symposia. The four independent estimates of ΔC21 and ΔS21 variations agree well over a broad band of frequencies. The GRACE/GFO Release 6 (RL06) solutions show major improvements over the previous RL05 solutions at both seasonal and intra-seasonal time scales, when compared with EOP and SLR estimates. Among the four independent estimates, highest correlation coefficients and smallest RMS residuals are found between GRACE/GFO and EOP estimates of ΔC21 and ΔS21 variations. GRACE/GFO and EOP ΔC21 and ΔS21 estimates exhibit slightly different trends, which are related to the implementation and interpretation of the pole tide correction in GRACE/GFO data processing. This study provides an important early validation of GFO ΔC21 and ΔS21 solutions, especially the new pole tide correction applied in GRACE/GFO RL06 solutions using independent estimates. [Termes IGN] variation saisonnièreRésumé : (auteur) We investigate theoretically the effects of periodic-in-time modulations on the properties of earthquakes. To wit, we consider successively the one dimensional Burridge–Knopoff (BK) model and the two dimensional Olami–Feder–Christensen (OFC) model. Each model is modified to take into account either a modulation of normal stress or of shear stress acting on a fault. Despite the differences between the BK and the OFC model, several results are observed in both models. In particular, we observe that earthquake occurrences correlate with stress modulation. The correlation is strongly dependent on parameters such as the type of modulation, its frequency and amplitude, and in some cases on the magnitude of the considered earthquakes. [Vedettes matières IGN] AltimétrieRésumé : (auteur) Current GNSS-R (GNSS reflectometry) techniques for sea surface measurements require data collection over longer periods, limiting their usability for real-time applications. In this work, we present a new, alternative GNSS-R approach based on the unscented Kalman filter and the so-called inverse modeling approach. The new method makes use of a mathematical description that relates SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) variations to multipath effects and uses a B-spline formalism to obtain time series of reflector height. The presented algorithm can provide results in real time with a precision that is significantly better than spectral inversion methods and almost comparable to results from inverse modeling in post-processing mode. To verify the performance, the method has been tested at station GTGU at the Onsala Space Observatory, Sweden, and at the station SPBY in Spring Bay, Australia. The RMS (root mean square) error with respect to nearby tide gauge data was found to be 2.0 cm at GTGU and 4.8 cm at SPBY when evaluating the output corresponding to real-time analysis. The method can also be applied in post-processing, resulting in RMS errors of 1.5 cm and 3.3 cm for GTGU and SPBY, respectively. Finally, based on SNR data from GTGU, it is also shown that the Kalman filter approach is able to detect the presence of sea ice with a higher temporal resolution than the previous methods and traditional remote sensing techniques which monitor ice in coastal regions. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (Auteur) Any unmodelled or mismodelled subdaily signals left in the model may not only affect the instantaneous site positions and the associated estimates, but also propagate into spurious seasonal signals, contaminating the daily coordinate time series. To demonstrate how subdaily ‘error’ in the modelling of the solid Earth-tide affects the estimates of tropospheric zenith total delay (ZTD) and how it propagates into long-period signal in the daily GPS time series, we analyse GPS observations collected between 2009 and 2013 for 13 sites in the coastal regions of Antarctica using the GAMIT/GLOBK 10.6 software. We find that ZTD differenced time series, with amplitude at 2 mm level, have inverse correlation with the input K1 correction, and the corresponding admittances range from 6% to 14%; Propagated spurious annual signals are evident in the vertical component of coordinate differenced time series, with amplitudes at the mm level and admittances of around 2–11%.
