[Termes IGN] reconstruction d'objetRésumé : (auteur) 3D Geographic Information and especially Digital Surface or Terrain Models are becoming essential data for many applications, from risk mapping (avalanches, volcanoes, floods, ..) to town and infrastructure planning with virtual and augmented reality. Automatic surface reconstruction from images with shape from stereo techniques has been a subject of constant attention within remote sensing, photogrammetric, image processing and computer vision communities since the 70's. These techniques had reached a limit when addressing scenes with poor textures, discontinuities and occlusions as encountered in urban areas with HR geospatial imagery. These limitations have faded lately with the rise of new technologies (e.g. high quality aerial digital cameras) and techniques (e.g multi-view processing) and consequently expectations of full (or nearly) automation at short term have become a trend again. Meanwhile, LASER scanning technologies, which provide a reliable description of the imaged scenes in the form of 3D cloud points, have achieved a certain degree of maturity. [Termes IGN] modèle de régressionRésumé : (Auteur) This paper proposes a new filtering method of non-ground measurements from airborne LIDAR data through a Simultaneous Auto-Regressive (SAR) analytical model and exploiting a Foward Search (FS) algorithm. In SAR models, with respect to classical spatial regression models, the correlation among adjacent measured points is taken into account, by considering two quantities for the measured dataset : a coefficient of spatial interaction and matrix of point adjacency (binary digits for regular grids or real numbers for irregular ones). The method has been implemented using Matlab® language and applied either to differently simulated LIDAR datasets or really measured points, these last acquired with an Optech® ALTM 3033 system in the city of Gorizia (North-east Italy). [Termes IGN] stéréoscopieRésumé : (Auteur) A digital terrain model (DTM) extracted from QuickBird in-track stereo images using a three-dimensional (3D) multisensor physical model developed at the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing, Natural Resources Canada was evaluated. Firstly. the stereo photogrammetric bundle adjustment was set-up with about 10 accurate ground control points and 1-2 m errors in the three axes were obtained over 48 independent checkpoints. The DTM was then generated using an area-based multi-scale image matching method and 3D semi-automatic editing tools and then compared to lidar elevation data with 0.2-m accuracy. An elevation error with 68% confidence level (LE68) of 6.4m was achieved over the full area. Since the DTM is in fact a digital surface model where the height, or a part, of land cover (trees, houses) is included, the accuracy depends on the land cover types. Using 3D visual classification of the stereo QuickBird images, different classes (deciduous, conifer, mixed and sparse forests, residential areas, bare soils and lakes) were generated to take into account the height of the surfaces (natural and human-made) in the accuracy evaluation. LE68 values of 3.4 m to 6.7 m were thus obtained depending on the land cover types with biases representative of the surface heights. On the other hand, LE68 values of 0.5m and 1.3 m with no bias were obtained for lakes and bare soils respectively. These last results are more representative of the real stereo QuickBird potential for DTM and 5-m contour line generation, compliant with the highest topographic standard. Since the images were acquired in wintertime and the lidar data in summertime, better results could thus be expected when using stereo images acquired in summertime, mainly in deciduous forests to integrate the full canopy height into the DSM. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Airbome laser scanner technique provides a 3D perception of the terrestrial topography, including true ground and objects belonging either to vegetated areas or to human made features. The high intrinsic accuracy and regularity of airborne laser sensors makes highly conceivable the extraction of semantic information related to the recorded 3D-points. In this respect, a new algorithm has been developed in order to classify the initial cloud of points into ground/non ground earth points and generale accurate Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) on a regular grid. Our approach is based on a multiple pass classification process. An estimation of the ground is performed within overlapping neighborhood and laser points are classified with regard to this ground estimation. The algorithm moves toward the neighbor where the average altitude is the lowest. We then compare the vicinity of the terrain with the estimated ground and apply a linear correction. As it goes along, points are filtered many times until we vote for the final label. The estimated ground surface is then the input of an energy minimization algorithm (ICM) which consider laser points as a set of attractors. The final DTM will be a trade off between internal properties and its closeness to ground laser points. The resolution may be fine enough to proceed relevant micro relief analysis especially in a rural environment.
