[Termes IGN] similitudeRésumé : (Auteur) As large amounts of trajectories from a wide variety of Volunteered Geographic Information (referred to as VGI) contributors pour into the spatial database, the geometric qualities of the VGI road networks generated from these trajectories are different from the ground truth road dataset and so need to be differently assessed. To address this issue, an assessment approach based on symmetric arc similarity is proposed, and the geometric quality of a VGI road network is assessed by its conformity with the corresponding ground truth road network, the results being visualized as hierarchical thematic maps. To compute the conformity, the geometric similarity between the VGI road arc and the corresponding ground truth road arc, which is selected by the adaptive searching distance, is measured based on the symmetric arc similarity method; the geometric quality is assessed based on an assessment matrix. Also, the symmetric arc similarity method is independent of directions and with a feature of shift-independence, which is applicable to assess the geometric qualities of different VGI road networks and makes the assessment result consistent with the actual situation of the real world. The robustness and scalability of the approach are examined using VGI road networks from different sources. [Termes IGN] séquence d'imagesRésumé : (auteur) In this paper, the problem of automated scene understanding by tracking and predicting paths for multiple humans is tackled, with a new methodology using data from a single, fixed camera monitoring the environment. Our main idea is to build goal-oriented prior motion models that could drive both the tracking and path prediction algorithms, based on a coarse-to-fine modeling of the target goal. To implement this idea, we use a dataset of training video sequences with associated ground-truth trajectories and from which we extract hierarchically a set of key locations. These key locations may correspond to exit/entrance zones in the observed scene, or to crossroads where trajectories have often abrupt changes of direction. A simple heuristic allows us to make piecewise associations of the ground-truth trajectories to the key locations, and we use these data to learn one statistical motion model per key location, based on the variations of the trajectories in the training data and on a regularizing prior over the models spatial variations. We illustrate how to use these motion priors within an interacting multiple model scheme for target tracking and path prediction, and we finally evaluate this methodology with experiments on common datasets for tracking algorithms comparison. [Termes IGN] trafic routierRésumé : (Auteur) This work aims at the inference of traffic networks from GPS trajectories. We perform geometry and topology reconstruction of the network in a multistep process. Our main contributions are the formulation of an explicit intersection model with a score function that accounts for consistency with the raw tracking data, as well as for a topology prior and the search for the best model by maximization of this score function using a Markov chain Monte Carlo sampler. We demonstrate the viability of our model-based approach with experiments on GPS data sets of varying size and data quality, followed by a comparison with results achieved by alternative, heuristic approaches. [Termes IGN] réalité de terrainRésumé : (auteur) Parsing facade images requires optimal handcrafted grammar for a given class of buildings. Such a handcrafted grammar is often designed manually by experts. In this paper, we present a novel framework to learn a compact grammar from a set of ground-truth images. To this end, parse trees of ground-truth annotated images are obtained running existing inference algorithms with a simple, very general grammar. From these parse trees, repeated subtrees are sought and merged together to share derivations and produce a grammar with fewer rules. Furthermore, unsupervised clustering is performed on these rules, so that, rules corresponding to the same complex pattern are grouped together leading to a rich compact grammar. Experimental validation and comparison with the state-of-the-art grammar-based methods on four different datasets show that the learned grammar helps in much faster convergence while producing equal or more accurate parsing results compared to handcrafted grammars as well as grammars learned by other methods. Besides, we release a new dataset of facade images following the Art-deco style and demonstrate the general applicability and extreme potential of the proposed framework. [Termes IGN] topographieRésumé : (auteur) Mapping with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) typically involves the deployment of ground control points (GCPs) to georeference the images and topographic model. An alternative approach is direct georeferencing, whereby the onboard Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and inertial measurement unit are used without GCPs to locate and orient the data. This study compares the spatial accuracy of these approaches using two nearly identical UAVs. The onboard GNSS is the one difference between them, as one vehicle uses a survey-grade GNSS/RTK receiver (RTK UAV), while the other uses a lower-grade GPS receiver (non-RTK UAV). Field testing was performed at a gravel pit, with all ground measurements and aerial surveying completed on the same day. Three sets of orthoimages and DSMs were produced for comparing spatial accuracies: two sets were created by direct georeferencing images from the RTK UAV and non-RTK UAV and one set was created by using GCPs during the external orientation of the non-RTK UAV images. Spatial accuracy was determined from the horizontal (X,Y) and vertical (Z) residuals and root-mean-square-errors (RMSE) relative to 17 horizontal and 180 vertical check points measured with a GNSS/RTK base station and rover. For the two direct georeferencing datasets, the horizontal and vertical accuracy improved substantially with the survey-grade GNSS/RTK receiver onboard the RTK UAV, effectively reducing the RMSE values in X, Y and Z by 1 to 2 orders of magnitude compared to the lower grade GPS receiver onboard the non-RTK UAV. Importantly, the horizontal accuracy of the RTK UAV data processed via direct georeferencing was equivalent to the horizontal accuracy of the non-RTK UAV data processed with GCPs, but the vertical error of the DSM from the RTK UAV data was 2 to 3 times greater than the DSM from the non-RTK data with GCPs. Overall, results suggest that direct georeferencing with the RTK UAV can achieve horizontal accuracy comparable to that obtained with a network of GCPs, but for topographic measurements requiring the highest achievable accuracy, researchers and practitioners should use GCPs.
