On May 10, 2013, GSI started providing nationwide the observation data from the Quasi-Zenith Satellites System and GLONASS in addition to GPS, opening the multi GNSS era in Japan. This report provides the background and history behind this modernization of GEONET, the effect of the use of multi GNSS confirmed so far, and the plan for the future modernization. The moment of slack tide is the very moment the tidal current changes direction. The method is applied in the Schelde Estuary in the Netherlands. An estuary is the transition between two distinct water bodies: a river and a sea. Estuaries are very important as a transport link and a source of food. Interventions in the estuary bathymetry, like dredging, can have severe impact on the hydraulic behavior of the estuary. Knowledge of the physical phenomena that determine the tidal flow is important as they influence the environment of an estuary in many ways. One of the key parameters in tidal propagation is the phase lag, which is the difference in time between high or low water and the subsequent moment of slack. The main objective of this thesis is to estimate the moment of slack tide based on GPS measurements on a buoy ultimately with an accuracy in the order of 5-10 minutes. The buoy, which is used as an aid to navigation, is floating on the water and tied to the sea floor by a heavy anchor chain. In order to achieve this goal it is necessary to: investigate the performance of different GPS receivers in combination with different antennas and operating modes; analyze the motion of the buoy during several tidal cycles; develop a method to estimate the moment of slack tide based on GPS measurements on a buoy; and, investigate whether the results could be further improved by employing a Kalman filter that combines knowledge about the dynamics of the buoy and series of measurements over time as opposed to a single epoch slack tide estimation. [Termes IGN] varianceRésumé : (auteur) This paper investigates the precision of the estimation of geophysical fluid load deformation computed from GRACE space gravity, GPS vertical displacement and geophysical fluids models [Global Circulation Models (GCMs) for ocean, atmosphere and hydrology], using the three-cornered hat method. This method allows the estimation of the variance of the errors of each technique, when the same quantity is monitored by three instruments with independent errors. Applied on a network of stations, several points of view can be considered: the technique level (in order to determine the error of each technique: GRACE, GPS and GCMs), the solution level (allowing to compare the precision of the same technique when different strategies/models are used), and the station level (in order to emphasize local anomalies and geographical patterns). In particular, our results show a precision of the loading vertical displacement at the level of 1 mm when using GRACE or the fluid models, and of 2 mm using GPS. We do not find significant differences between the precision of different solutions of the same techniques, even when there are strong differences in the data processing. [Termes IGN] varianceRésumé : (Auteur) Earth deformation signals caused by atmospheric pressure loading are detected in vertical position estimates at Global Positioning System (GPS) stations. Surface displacements due to changes in atmospheric pressure account for up to 24% of the total variance in the GPS height estimates. The detected loading signals are larger at higher latitudes where pressure variations are greatest; the largest effect is observed at Fairbanks, Alaska (latitude 65°), with a signal RMS of 5 mm. Out of 19 continuously operating GPS sites (with a mean of 281 daily solutions per site), 18 show a positive correlation between the GPS vertical estimates and the modeled loading displacements. Accounting for loading reduces the variance of the vertical station positions on 12 of the 19 sites investigated.
