[Vedettes matières IGN] Traitement de données GNSSIndex. décimale : MX Mémoires divers Résumé : (auteur) Seasonal signals (annual plus semi-annual) in GPS time series are of great importance for understanding the evolution of regional mass, i.e. ice and hydrology. Conventionally these signals (annual and semi-annual) are derived by least-squares fitting of harmonic terms with a constant amplitude and phase. In reality, however, such seasonal signals are modulated, i.e. they will have a time-variable amplitude and phase. Recently, Davis et al. (2012) proposed a Kalman filter based approach to capture the stochastic seasonal behavior of geodetic time series. In this study, a non-parametric approach, singular spectrum analysis (SSA) is introduced. It uses time domain data to extract information from short and noisy time series without prior knowledge of the dynamics affecting the time series. A prominent benefit is that obtained trends are not necessarily linear and extracted oscillations can be amplitude and phase modulated. In this work, the capability of SSA for analyzing time-variable seasonal signals from GPS time series is investigated. We also compare SSA-based results to two model-based results, i.e. least-squares analysis and Kalman filtering. Our results show that singular spectrum analysis could be a viable and complementary tool for exploring modulated oscillations from GPS time series. Based on the SSA-derived seasonal signals, we look into the effects of the input noise variances in the framework of Kalman filtering. Two Kalman filtering based approaches with different process noise models are compared over 79 GPS sites. We find that the basic Kalman filtering technique with the input noise model suggested by Davis et al. (2012) turns out to be optimal. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser transportableRésumé : (auteur) Tahiti is a unique geodetic site located in the south Pacific Ocean where few observatories exist nearby. The American mobile station MOBLAS-8 was installed in Tahiti in 1998, and GPS and DORIS systems were also deployed in its vicinity in order to develop this site into one of the fundamental colocated sites of the International Terrestrial Reference Frame. In order to make a new estimate of the colocation differences between the different techniques, a campaign of the French Transportable Laser Ranging System (FTLRS) was conducted in Tahiti between April and October 2011. The FTLRS was deployed close to the existing equipment. Observations for LAGEOS 1, LAGEOS 2 and Starlette were studied, and the solutions to the local ties between FTLRS, MOBLAS-8, DORIS and GPS were evaluated. Our results of the geodetic local-ties between laser stations and GPS agree well with the measurements made by the Institut National de l’Information Géographique et Forestière (IGN) during the campaign, with differences less than 2 mm in the vertical direction. The laser station range biases as a function of satellites are also presented, −3 (±2) mm for MOBLAS-8 and 3 (±3) mm for FTLRS, respectively. In addition, we investigated the role of time bias (ranging from a few hundreds of nanoseconds to one microsecond) given by the Time Transfer by Laser Link experiment, which shows a limited impact on the present SLR analysis. We also compared the coordinates of the three available techniques at Tahiti, i.e., laser, GPS and DORIS. We found the accuracy of laser solutions still needs to be improved, so that the SLR at Tahiti could contribute more effectively to the tracking of satellites and thus to the international reference frame. This study is useful in evaluating the SLR and other space techniques in order to prepare the deployment of new equipment in Tahiti in the near future. [Termes IGN] trafic routierRésumé : (Auteur) Public vehicles and personal navigation assistants have become increasingly equipped with single-frequency global positioning system (GPS) receivers or loggers. These commonly used terminals offer an inexpensive way for acquiring large volumes of GPS traces, which contain information pertaining to road position and traffic rules. Using this new type of spatial data resource, we propose a novel approach for generating high-quality routable road maps. In this approach, a simplified road network graph model uses circular boundaries to separate all GPS traces into road intersections and road segments and builds road networks that maintain their identical geometric topologies through the entry/exit points at the original boundaries. One difficulty inherent to this type of approach is how to best determine the appropriate spatial coverage for road intersections. Conflict points among GPS traces that have large intersection angles usually occur within the physical areas of road intersections, particularly those involving left turns. Therefore, we determined a proper circle boundary for individual road intersections by conducting a spatial analysis of such feature points. This approach was implemented using Python and PostgreSQL/PostGIS and was tested in Huaibei City, China. Based on a comparison with human-interpreted results, the automatically generated routable road map was demonstrated to be of high quality and displayed detailed road networks with turning at various at-grade intersections, interchanges and U-turns. [Termes IGN] sismicitéRésumé : (auteur) We investigate how two decades of coseismic deformations affect time series of GPS station coordinates (Global Navigation Satellite System) and what constraints geodetic observations give on earthquake scaling laws. We developed a simple but rapid model for coseismic deformations, assuming different earthquake scaling relations, that we systematically applied on earthquakes with magnitude larger than 4. We found that coseismic displacements accumulated during the last two decades can be larger than 10m locally and that the cumulative displacement is not only due to large earthquakes but also to the accumulation of many small motions induced by smaller earthquakes. Then, investigating a global network of GPS stations, we demonstrate that a systematic global modeling of coseismic deformations helps greatly to detect discontinuities in GPS coordinate time series, which are still today one of the major sources of error in terrestrial reference frame construction (e.g., the International Terrestrial Reference Frame). We show that numerous discontinuities induced by earthquakes are too small to be visually detected because of seasonal variations and GPS noise that disturb their identification. However, not taking these discontinuities into account has a large impact on the station velocity estimation, considering today’s precision requirements. Finally, six groups of earthquake scaling laws were tested. Comparisons with our GPS time series analysis on dedicated earthquakes give insights on the consistency of these scaling laws with geodetic observations and Okada coseismic approach. [Termes IGN] variableRésumé : (Auteur) An assessment has been made of the possibility to estimate time-variable gravity from GPS-derived orbit perturbations and common-mode accelerometer observations of ESA’s GOCE Earth Explorer. A number of 20-day time series of Earth’s global long-wavelength gravity field have been derived for the period November 2009 to November 2012 using different parameter setups and estimation techniques. These techniques include a conventional approach where for each period, one set of gravity coefficients is estimated, either excluding or including empirical accelerations, and the so-called Wiese approach where higher frequency coefficients are estimated for the very long wavelengths. A principal component analysis of especially the time series of gravity field coefficients obtained by the Wiese approach and the conventional approach with empirical accelerations reveals an annual signal. When fitting this annual signal directly through the time series, the sine component (maximum in spring) displays features that are similar to well-known continental hydrological mass changes for the low latitude areas, such as mass variations in the Amazon basin, Africa and Australia for spatial scales down to 1,500 km. The cosine component (maximum in winter), however, displays large signals that can not be attributed to actual mass variations in the Earth system. The estimated gravity field changes from GOCE orbit perturbations are likely affected by missing GPS observations in case of high ionospheric perturbations during periods of increased solar activity, which is minimal in Summer and maximal towards the end of autumn.
