[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The automatic interpretation of aerial and satellites images is one of the main important research topics in photogrammetry and images analysis. The aim of the interpretation is the recognition or verification of objects in images. The quality of the interpretation results depends among other factors on the information content of the input data. The more information in the input data the easier is the interpretation process. In this paper an approach is described that increases the quality of the interpretation process by using existing GIS data as prior information on the one hand and by combining multispectral and LIDAR data on the other hand. The approach is used fo automatic change detection and is based on the evaluation of automatically derived training data sets from existing GIS data. For that reason no data dependent tuning factors have to be defined and no human interaction is necessary. [Termes IGN] penteRésumé : (Auteur) This paper compares three methods for removing non-ground measurements from airborne laser scanning data. These methods, including the elevation threshold with expanding window (ETEW), maximum local slope (MLS), and progressive morphological (PM) filters, analyze data points based on variations of local slope, and elevation. Low and high-relief data sets with various densities of trees, houses, and sand dunes were selected to test the filtering methods. The results show that all three methods can effectively remove most non-ground points in both low-relief urban and high-relief forested areas. The PM filter generated the best result in coastal barrier island areas, whereas the other algorithms tended to remove the tops of steep sand dunes. Each method experienced various omission or commission errors, depending on the filtering parameters. Topographic slope is the most sensitive parameter for the three filtering methods. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) The tsunami in Asia has once again demonstrated that human beings are at risk at any time, anywhere. Disasters in highly populated environments are difficult to manage using only small-scale (1:10 000 to 1:250 000) 2D geo-information. Innovative technologies and working procedures are thus urgently required for the response phase of disaster and emergency management. International attention is drawn to the use of large-scale (1:500 to 1:2000) 3D geo-information and 3D geo-information technology for disaster management in urban areas. [Termes IGN] utilisateurRésumé : (Auteur) Metadata should help users to assess the quality (fitness for use) of geospatial data, thus reducing the risk of data misuse. However, metadata presents limitations and remain largely unused. There still exists a need to provide information to users about data quality in a more meaningful way. This research aims to dynamically communicate quality information to the users in a rapid and intuitive way in order to reduce user meta- uncertainty related to geospatial data quality, and then reduce the risks of data misuses. Such a solution requires a data model able to support heterogeneous data quality information at different levels of analysis. Using a multidimensional database approach, this paper proposes a conceptual framework named the Quality Information Management Model (QIMM) relying on quality dimensions and measures. This allows a user to easily and rapidly navigate into the quality information using a Spatial On-Line Analytical Processing (SOLAP) client-tied to its GIS application. QIMM potential is illustrated by examples, and then a prototype and ways to communicate data quality to users are explored.
