In a steady shift from traditional 2D--GIS toward 3D-GIS, a great amount of accurate 3D city models have become necessary to be produced in a short period of time and provided widely on the market. The authors have developed a system for automatic generation of 3D city models, using laser profiler data, 2D digital map, and aerial image, which are processed by the software newly developed. MapCube, the 3D city models generated by the system, has already covered all major cities of Japan at the end of 2002. Applications for virtual reality (VR) that deal with accurate and photo-realistic 3D city models are becoming indispensable in many fields. However, there had been no VR viewer that can appropriately deal with a great amount of 3D city data in real time. In order to solve the problem the authors have developed a new VR viewer called Urban Viewer that can make best use of 3D city models, especially MapCube. VR applications used on display devices should provide easy interactive operation. The authors have developed a new type of VR display device with optical sensors called NEXTRAX, which users can operate as easily as touch-panel display, with more accuracy of operation and much more durability. NEXTRAX also provides simultaneous display of co-related information including 3D city model, 2D digital map and varieties of multimedia information. The methods of direct georeferencing naturally have a high level of automation where indirect methods still need manual interaction. Within this thesis, a completely implemented system for automatic indirect georeferencing is presented. The developed procedure is based on features of polygons being extracted in the data sets to be matched. Where image data are in raster form by nature, reference data for the outlined system can be in raster or in vector form. There do not exist any limitations in form of approximate values. The extraction of polygonal objects from image data is carried out by multiple segmentation. In order to evaluate the results of the chosen region-growing algorithm, several examinations are carried out. Merging of neighboured polygons with the same object class does the extraction of suitable polygons from GIS reference data. Within the framework of this thesis, German ATKIS data are used exclusively. Based on the theory of affine invariants of algebraic forms, features are developed which can be computed from geometric moments of raster and vector polygons. Alternatively, polygon features are derived from cross-weighted moment's invariants that can be obtained from geometric moments of raster and vector polygons in a similar way. Studies on the robustness of the features and their ability to discriminate similar objects are carried out by the use of synthetic and real data. A backtracking-depht-first tree search algorithm with unary and binary constraints obtains the matching of image and reference data. In order to formulate the constraints, an affine transformation is computed from the geometric moments for each pair. The procedure is based on the theory of standard positions. A closing verification step leads to a global affine transformation between image and reference system. The approximate transformation is individually refined with the IterativeClosestPoint algorithm. Based on the optimised affine transformation for each polygon pair, tie points are generated automatically on the borderline of the polygons. Based on a theoretical consideration, extensive studies on the achievable tie point accuracy were carried out with three synthetic and real data sets. The performance and robustness of the developed system under various input data is demonstrated by controlled application of disturbances. [Termes IGN] propagation d'erreurRésumé : (Auteur) Thirteen panchromatic (Pan) and multiband (XS) Ikonos Geoproduct images over seven study sites with various environments and terrain were tested using different cartographic data and accuracies with a 3D parametric model developed at the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing, Natural Resources Canada. The objectives of this study were to define the relationship between the final accuracy and the number and accuracy of input data, to track error propagation during the full geometric correction process (bundle adjustment and orthorectification), and to advise on the applicability of the model in operational environments.
When ground control points (GCPs) have an accuracy poorer than 3 m, 20 GGPs over the entire image are a good compromise to obtain a 3- to 4-m accuracy in the bundle adjustment. When GCP accuracy is better than 1 m, ten GCPs are enough to decrease the bundle adjustment error of either panchromatic or multiband images to 2 to 3 m. Because GGP residuals reflect the input data errors (map and/or plotting), these errors did not propagate through the 3D parametric model, and the internal accuracy of the geometric model is thus better (around a pixel or less).
Quantitative and qualitative evaluations of orthoimages were thus performed with either independent check points or overlaid digital vector files. Generally, the measured errors confirmed the predicted errors or were even slightly better, and a 2- to 4-m positioning accuracy was achieved for the orthoimages depending upon the elevation accuracy (DEM and grid spacing). To achieve a better final positioning accuracy, such as 1 m, a DEM with an accuracy of 1 to 2 m and with a fine grid spacing is required, in addition to welldefined GCPs with an accuracy of 1 m.Numéro de notice : A2003-001 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article DOI : 10.14358/PERS.69.1.43 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.14358/PERS.69.1.43 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=22299

[Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Airborne laser Systems provide a three-dimensional (3D) perception of the Earth's topography with clouds of points. Whereas the technique ensures a high theoritical quality, one can observe discrepancies in certain areas. This situation may be of importance in case of joint sensor application, like merging airborne laser scanner with photogrammetry. The first step of a fusion process is to define a common reference frame so that a global geometric coherence should be extracted. This article describes a methodology for matching a single laser strip with a photogrammetric derived Digital Elevation Model (DEM), and as a result estimating intra-strip errors. It is based on calculating local linear deformations with a tri-dimensionnal accumulator (translation space). We show that searching for local discrepancy is equivalent to compute the maximum of the accumulator. 2D and 3D simulated problems are discussed in details and solved over known transformed data set. Results on real data show a significant improvement when applying retrieved local translations to laser points. After correction, both data sets tend to be expressed in the same reference frame. The accurate registration is then ensured.
