[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Manual cartographic generalization is a simultaneous process. However, most automatic approaches so far have been sequential ; generalization operators are applied one at a time in a certain order. This has been the case both for model generalization (generalization of the conceptual model) and graphic generalization. Our research seeks to demonstrate that the graphic part of cartographic generalization can be formulated as an optimization problem and accordingly be solved in a single step. This paper deals with several issues regarding this optimization approach. Firstly, a set of appropriate analytical constraints for the generalization process is given, as well as rules for when to apply these constraints. In our approach, we are limited to formulating these constraints on point locations. Secondly, leastsquares adjustment is proposed to find the optimal solution according to the constraints. Finally, the conjugate gradients method is recommended for solving the normal equations. A prototype system for simultaneous graphic generalization has been implemented in C++, which communicates with a commercial map production system. Results from three tests of the prototype system are included in the paper. [Termes IGN] terrainRésumé : (Auteur) The rational function model (RFM) is a sensor model that allows users to perform ortho-rectification and 3D feature extraction from imagery without knowledge of the physical sensor model. It is a fact that the RFM is determined by the vendor using a proprietary physical sensor model. The accuracy of the RFM solutions is dependent on the avaibility and the usage of ground control points (GCPs). In order to obtain a more accurate RFM solution, the user may be asked to supply GCPs to the data vendor. However, control information may not be available at the time of data processing or cannot be supplied due to some reasons (e.g., politics or confidentility). This paper adresses a means to update or improve the existing RFM solutions when additional GCPs are available, without knowing the physical sensor model. From a linear estimation perspective, the above issue can be tackled using a phased estimation theory . In this paper, two methods are proposed : a batch iterative least-squares (BILS) method and an incremental discrete Kalman filtering (IDKF) method. Detailed descriptions of both methods are given. The feasability of these two methods is validated and their performances are evaluated. Some results concerning the updating of Ikonos imagery are also discussed. [Termes IGN] rayonnement proche infrarougeRésumé : (Auteur) Digital data from four multi spectral sensors having different spatial resolution and spectral channel, LISS-III, LISS-II, LISS-I and WiFS acquired from two Indian Remote Sensing satellite platform ( IRS 1B, IRS IC) were evaluated for wheat crop classification accuracy over central India. Classification accuracy was assessed at different spatial resolutions using common red and near infrared (nir) bands in the above four sensors data as well as simulated intermediate resolution data. It was observed that accuracy improved with better spatial resolution and there was a considerable increases in accuracy from 188 to 144 in resolution and from 72 in up to 23 m resolution with the modest increase in the intermediate range. Inclusion of the MIR band, and choice of proper acquisition date resulted in significantly higher crop classification accuracies. The results have been evaluated against the future sensor planned on IRS Platform.
