[Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (auteur) Terrestrial laser scanning (TLS), widely known as light detection and ranging (LiDAR) technology, is increasingly used to provide highly detailed digital terrain models (DTM) with millimetric precision and accuracy. In order to generate a DTM, TLS data has to be filtered from undesired spurious objects, such as vegetation, artificial structures, etc., Early filtering techniques, successfully applied to airborne laser scanning (ALS), fail when applied to TLS data, as they heavily smooth the terrain surface and do not retain their real morphology. In this article, we present a new methodology for filtering TLS data based on the geometric and radiometric properties of the scanned surfaces. This methodology was built on previous morphological filters that select the minimum point height within a sliding window as the real surface. However, contrary to those methods, which use a fixed window size, the new methodology operates under different spatial scales represented by different window sizes, and can be adapted to different types and sizes of plants. This methodology has been applied to two study areas of differing vegetation type and density. The accuracy of the final DTMs was improved by ∼30% under dense canopy plants and over ∼40% on the open spaces between plants, where other methodologies drastically underestimated the real surface heights. This resulted in more accurate representation of the soil surface and microtopography than up-to-date techniques, eventually having strong implications in hydrological and geomorphological studies. [Termes IGN] système de numérisation mobileRésumé : (auteur) This paper proposes an hybrid online calibration method for a laser scanner mounted on a mobile platform also equipped with an imaging system. The method relies on finding the calibration parameters that best align the acquired points cloud to the images. The quality of this intermodal alignment is measured by Mutual information between image luminance and points reflectance. The main advantage and motivation is ensuring pixel accurate alignment of images and point clouds acquired simultaneously, but it is also much more flexible than traditional laser calibration methods. [Termes IGN] transformation de HoughRésumé : (auteur) The detection of planes from 3D point clouds plays an important role in fields such as 3D modelling, rock mechanics, registration and robotics. A multi-scale plane-detection method is proposed, based on extracting growth units using the Hough transform and subsequent region growing into actual plane boundaries. Because the approximate geometric features of the original plane area can be obtained from the growth units, discriminant conditions for adaptive plane growing could be provided for the growing stage. In order to detect physical planes at different scales, a strategy of multi-scale normal estimation is introduced. Simulated icosahedron point clouds, together with actual engineering point clouds, were used to test the performance of the proposed method. Experimental results show that planar point clouds could be detected effectively, especially with rock-mass engineering applications. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser aéroportéRésumé : (Auteur) Point cloud classification plays a critical role in point cloud processing and analysis. Accurately classifying objects on the ground in urban environments from airborne laser scanning (ALS) point clouds is a challenge because of their large variety, complex geometries, and visual appearances. In this paper, a novel framework is presented for effectively extracting the shape features of objects from an ALS point cloud, and then, it is used to classify large and small objects in a point cloud. In the framework, the point cloud is split into hierarchical clusters of different sizes based on a natural exponential function threshold. Then, to take advantage of hierarchical point cluster correlations, latent Dirichlet allocation and sparse coding are jointly performed to extract and encode the shape features of the multilevel point clusters. The features at different levels are used to capture information on the shapes of objects of different sizes. This way, robust and discriminative shape features of the objects can be identified, and thus, the precision of the classification is significantly improved, particularly for small objects.
