[Termes IGN] visibilitéRésumé : (Auteur) With the growing interest in (inter)national road safety programs comes a need for documentation of road systems for safety analysis and traffic-accident reconstruction studies. This requires reliable, accurate and timely data, which, as the authors demonstrate, Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) can provide. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) A terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) allows the generation of a detailed model of a landslide surface. In this way, when two or more georeferenced models obtained by multi-temporal scans are available, the landslide displacement field can be computed. Nevertheless, such a computation is a relatively complex task because the recognition of correspondences among the multi-temporal models is required. The Iterative Closest Point (ICP) algorithm allows the alignment of two 3D objects having a common part by iterative shape matching. A new method for the automatic calculation of a landslide displacement field is presented here. It is based on a piecewise application of the ICP algorithm and is made possible by the robustness of this algorithm against noise and small morphological modifications. After a series of numerical experimentations, this method was successfully applied to two test sites located in the North-Eastern Italian Alps affected by high-risk landslides of the slump type (Perarolo di Cadore and Lamosano) with very different observational conditions. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) The combination of 3D-laser scanning and side-scan sonar can be very beneficial for mapping complicated waterside areas; the two systems are complementary. High-resolution surveys were performed over a two-year period (2005 and 2006) at several locations in Italy, generating a complete and accurate digital model of areas both above and below water level, a result inimitable by any other topographical survey method. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (Editeur) Advances in laser scanning are opening up some interesting new applications in three-dimensional mapping. With recent developments in scanning technology and processing software, new systems are being developed to electronically map and monitor change with greater precision than previously possible. Here we will look at examples in the environmental, mining, construction and education sectors where the technology is addressing important safety, security, commercial and research requirements.
