[Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) Multi-temporal high-density terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) datasets are processed to delineating possible movements from terrain surfaces and trees. Terrain surface movements are estimated with the help of segmentation and random sample consensus (RANSAC) algorithm. Tree movements are interpreted by iterative closest point (ICP) solved translations and rotations of tree point clouds. The capabilities of the proposed methodology were tested using a case study of the Slumgullion landslide, where the trees without clear trunks cover the terrain surfaces. The displacements from the terrain surfaces and trees are similar with the results observed using our global positioning system (GPS) and historic results. [Termes IGN] traitement de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Laser scanning does not provide unlimited geometrical accuracy and integrity when scanning complex objects. Scanning systems have a minimum and maximum range in which they operate, depending on the technical characteristics. Scanning below or above these limits results in gross errors and registering of incorrect data. Laser scanners can have difficulties with certain materials such as marble and reflective surfaces. This paper presents the results of laser scanning of a complex monument of cultural and historical heritage using two different types of terrestrial laser scanners. Afterwards, the comparison and analysis of the results are shown. The scanners used were terrestrial laser scanners Faro Focus 3D (phase mode distance measurements) and STONEX X300 (pulse mode distance measurements). [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) Registration of terrestrial point clouds is essential for large-scale urban applications. The robustness, accuracy, and runtime are generally given the highest priority in the design of appropriate algorithms. Most approaches that target general scenarios can only fulfill some of these factors, that is, robustness and accuracy come at the cost of increased runtime and vice versa. This paper proposes an object-based incremental registration strategy that accomplishes all of these objectives without the need for artificial targets, aiming at a specific scenario, the urban environment. The key is to decompose the degrees of freedom for the SE(3) transformation to three separate but closely related steps, considering that scanners are generally leveled in urban scenes: (1) 2D transformation with matches from line primitives, (2) vertical offset compensation by robust least-squares optimization, and (3) full SE(3) least-squares refinement using uniformly selected local patches. The robustness is prioritized in the whole pipeline, as structured first by a primitive-based registration and two least-squares optimizations with robust estimations that do not require specific keypoints. An object-based strategy for terrestrial point clouds is used to increase the reliability of the first step by the line primitives, which significantly reduces the search space without affecting the recall ratio. The least-squares optimization contributes to achieve a global optimum for the accurate registration. The three coupling steps are also more efficient than segregated coarse-to-fine registration. Experimental evaluations for point clouds acquired in both a metropolis and in old-style cities reveal that the proposed methods are superior to or on par with the state-of-the-art in robustness, accuracy, and runtime. In addition, the methods are also agnostic to the primitives adopted. [Termes IGN] variogrammeRésumé : (auteur) The establishment of the terrestrial laser scanner changed the analysis strategies in engineering geodesy from point-wise approaches to areal ones. During recent years, a multitude of developments regarding a laser scanner-based geometric state description were made. However, the areal deformation analysis still represents a challenge. In this paper, a spatio-temporal deformation model is developed, combining the estimation of B-spline surfaces with the stochastic modelling of deformations. The approach’s main idea is to model the acquired measuring object by means of three parts, similar to a least squares collocation: a deterministic trend, representing the undistorted object, a stochastic signal, describing a locally homogeneous deformation process, and the measuring noise, accounting for uncertainties caused by the measuring process. Due to the stochastic modelling of the deformations in the form of distance-depending variograms, the challenge of defining identical points within two measuring epochs is overcome. Based on the geodetic datum defined by the initial trend surface, a point-to-surface- and a point-to-point-comparison of the acquired data sets is possible, resulting in interpretable and meaningful deformation metrics. Furthermore, following the basic ideas of a least squares collocation, the deformation model allows a time-related space-continuous description as well as a space- and time-continuous prediction of the deformation. The developed approach is validated using simulated data sets, and the respective results are analysed and compared with respect to nominal surfaces.
