[Termes IGN] téléphonie mobileRésumé : (Auteur) Recently, there have been a wide range of mobile computing and crowd-sourcing applications that leverage the proliferating sensing capabilities of smartphones. Many of these place a paramount importance on accurate user heading estimation. Such applications include dead-reckoning-based localization and many crowd-sensing applications where the user typically carry her phone in arbitrary positions and orientations relative to her body and her transportation mode. However, there is no general solution available to estimate the user’s heading as current state-of-the-art focus on improving the phone orientation estimation, require the phone to be placed in a particular position, require a fixed transportation mode, require user intervention, and/or do not work accurately indoors. In this paper we present Humaine, a novel ubiquitous system that reliably and accurately estimates the user orientation relative to the Earth coordinate system. Humaine works accurately whether the user is riding a vehicle or walking indoors/outdoors for arbitrary cell phone positions and orientations relative to the user body. Moreover, it requires no prior-configuration nor user intervention. The system intelligently fuses the different inertial sensors widely available in off-the-shelf smartphones and employs statistical analysis techniques to their measurements to estimate the user orientation. Implementation of the system on different Android devices with 300 experiments performed at different indoor and outdoor testbeds shows that Humaine significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art in diverse scenarios, achieving a median accuracy of 14∘ and 16∘ for indoor and outdoor pedestrian users and 20∘ for in-vehicle users over a wide variety of phone positions. This is better than the-state-of-the-art by 523% and 594% for indoor and outdoor pedestrian users and 750% for in-vehicle users. This accuracy highlights the ubiquity of Humaine and its robustness against the various noise sources. [Termes IGN] zone homogèneRésumé : (Auteur) Map databases traditionally capture snapshot representations of the world following strict data collection and representation guidelines. The content of these map databases is often assessed using data quality metrics focusing on accuracy, completeness and consistency. The success of volunteered geographic information, supporting evolving representations of the world based on fluid guidelines, has rendered these measures insufficient. In this paper, we address the need to capture the variability in quality of a map database. We propose a new spatial data quality measure – dataset maturity – enabling assessment of the database based on temporal trends in feature definitions, specifically geometry-type definitions. The proposed measure can be (1) efficiently used to identify feature definition patterns reflecting community consensus that could be formalised in community guidelines and (2) deployed to identify regions that would benefit from increased editorial activity to achieve greater map homogeneity. We demonstrate the measure based on the content of the OpenStreetMap database in four regions of the world and show how the proposed dataset maturity measure captures a distinct quality of the datasets, distinct to data completeness and consistency. [Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) Trees Outside Forests (TOF) represent a source of lignocellulosic biomass that has received increasing attention in the recent years. While some studies have already investigated the potential of TOF in Germany, a spatial explicit analysis, specifically for Baden-Wuerttemberg, is still lacking. We used a unique wall-to-wall airborne Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) dataset combined with OpenStreetMap (OSM) data to map and classify TOF of the federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg (∼35.000 km2) in south-western Germany. Furthermore, from annual biomass potentials of TOF areas collected from available literature, we calculated the mean annual biomass supply for all TOF areas in Baden-Wuerttemberg. This combination of remote sensing-based classification and available literature resulted in a mean annual biomass supply between ∼490,000–730,000 t from TOF in Baden-Wuerttemberg. The classification congruence on three reference sites was very high (∼99%) using a simple filter technique applied to the LiDAR data and masking man-made objects using OSM data. In contrast, the available literature revealed a high variability of biomass potentials, supporting the demand for an inventory system. Still, the results demonstrate the applicability of LiDAR based vegetation mapping and the value of OSM data in Baden-Wuerttemberg to detect man-made objects.
