[Termes IGN] variation temporelleRésumé : (auteur) Water vapor plays an important role in Earth’s weather and climate processes and energy transfer. Plenty of techniques have developed to monitor precipitable water vapor (PWV), but joint use of different techniques has some problems, including systematic biases, different spatiotemporal coverages and resolutions among different datasets. To address the above problems and improve the data utilization, we propose to use a generalized regression neural network (GRNN) to fuse PWVs from Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), and European Centre for Medium‐Range Weather Forecasts Reanalysis 5 (ERA5). The core idea of this method is to use the high-quality GNSS PWV to calibrate and optimize the relatively low-quality MODIS and ERA5 PWV through the constructed GRNNs. Using the proposed method, we generated more than 400 PWV maps that combine GNSS, MODIS, and ERA5 PWVs in North America in 2018. Results show that the overall bias, standard deviation (STD), and root-mean-square (RMS) error are 0.0 mm, 2.1 mm, and 2.2 mm for the improved MODIS PWV, and 0.0 mm, 1.6 mm, and 1.6 mm for the improved ERA5 PWV. Compared to the original MODIS and ERA5 PWV, the total improvements are 37.1% and 15.8% in terms of RMS. The RMS improvements are mainly contributed from the calibration of bias for the MODIS PWV and optimization for the ERA5 PWV. It also demonstrates that the original MODIS PWV tends to be greater than the GNSS PWV while the ERA5 PWV has very small biases. After calibration and optimization, the correlation coefficients between the modified PWV and the GNSS PWV are 0.96 for the MODIS PWV and 0.98 for the ERA5 PWV. The proposed method also diminishes the temporal and spatial variations in accuracy, generating homogeneous PWV products. Since the biases among the three datasets are well removed and data accuracies are improved to the same level, they are thus easily fused and jointly used. [Termes IGN] variance de phaseRésumé : (Auteur) Many modern phased-array radars (PARs) are multichannel systems that include multiple receivers for data acquisition. Each channel provides a signal from a group of Transmit/Receive modules comprising a section of the antenna. Channels typically consist of a full receive path, often with an independent local oscillator (LO) clock source. Such arrangement provides for beamforming flexibility on receive which can be applied in a digital domain. Consequently, the channel-to-channel phase and magnitude alignment is critical to maximizing the performance of the digital beamforming process and the accuracy of resulting detections and measurements. Herein, a novel method to improve such alignment using weather returns and achieve the improvement in the polarimetric variable estimates is described. [Termes IGN] teneur intégrée en vapeur d'eauRésumé : (auteur) A ground-based network of more than 1200 Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) was analysed using GIPSY-OASIS II software package for the documentation of time and space variations of water vapor in atmosphere during the North Atlantic Waveguide and Downstream impact EXperiment (NAWDEX) during fall 2016. The network extends throughout the North Atlantic, from the Caribbeans to Morocco through Greenland. This paper presents the methodology used for GNSS data processing, screening, and conversion of Zenith Tropospheric Delay (ZTD) estimates to Integrated Water Vapor content (IWV) using surface parameters from reanalysis. The retrieved IWV are used to evaluate the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) reanalyses ERAI and ERA5. ERA5 shows an overall improvement over ERAI in representing the spatial and temporal variability of IWV over the study area. The mean bias is decreased from 0.31±0.63 to 0.19±0.56 kg m−2 (mean ±1σ over all stations) and the standard deviation reduced from 2.17±0.67 to 1.64±0.53 kg m−2 combined with a slight improvement in correlation coefficient from 0.95 to 0.97. At regional scale, both reanalyses show a general wet bias at mid and northern latitudes but a dry bias in the Caribbeans. We hypothesize this results from the different nature of data being assimilated over the tropical oceans. This GNSS IWV data set is intended to be used for a better description of the high impact weather events that occurred during the NAWDEX experiment. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (Auteur) Weather radar data play an important role in meteorological analysis and forecasting. In particular, web‐based real‐time 3D visualization will enable and enhance various meteorological applications by avoiding the dissemination of a large amount of data over the internet. Despite that, most existing studies are either limited to 2D or small‐scale data analytics due to methodological limitations. This article proposes a new framework to enable web‐based real‐time 3D visualization of large‐scale weather radar data using 3D tiles and WebGIS technology. The 3D tiles technology is an open specification for online streaming massive heterogeneous 3D geospatial datasets, which is designed to improve rendering performance and reduce memory consumption. First, the weather radar data from multiple single‐radar sites across a large coverage area are organized into a spliced grid data (i.e., weather radar composing data, WRCD). Next, the WRCD is converted into a widely used 3D tile data structure in four steps: data preprocessing, data indexing, data transformation, and 3D tile generation. Last, to validate the feasibility of the proposed strategy, a prototype, namely Meteo3D at https://202.195.237.252:82, is implemented to accommodate the WRCD collected from all the weather radar sites over the whole of China. The results show that near real‐time and accurate visualization for the monitoring and early warning of strong convective weather can be achieved. [Termes IGN] zone humideRésumé : (auteur) Drought can be described as a temporary decrease in water availability over a significant period that affects both surface and groundwater resources. Droughts propagate through the hydrological cycle and may impact vulnerable ecosystems. This paper investigates drought propagation in the hydrological cycle, focusing on assessing its impact on a groundwater-fed wetland ecosystem. Meteorological drought indices were used to analyze meteorological drought severity. Moreover, a method for assessing groundwater drought and its propagation in the aquifer was developed and applied. Groundwater drought was analyzed using the variable threshold method. Furthermore, meteorological drought and groundwater drought on recharge were compared to investigate drought propagation in the hydrological cycle. This research is carried out in the Doode Bemde wetland in central Belgium. The results of this research show that droughts are attenuated in the groundwater system. The number and severity of drought events on groundwater discharge were smaller than for groundwater recharge. However, the onset of both drought events occurred at the same time, indicating a quick response of the groundwater system to hydrological stresses. In addition, drought propagation in the hydrological cycle indicated that not all meteorological droughts result in groundwater drought. Furthermore, this drought propagation effect was observed in the wetland.
