[Termes IGN] terrainRésumé : (Auteur) This paper investigates the combination of metric aerial photography and near-infrared (NIR) videography data to improve the design of field-survey sampling frameworks. Spatial data collection can contribute up to 80% of the cost of deploying a Geographic Information System (GIS) based Decision Support System (DSS). The use of remotely sensed information, field survey using differential Global Positioning System (dGPS) and geostatistical interpolation methods maximises data quality for a given rate of sampling.
Medium-format colour aerial photography and NIR videography were orthorectified to the national map base and mosaiced using ERDAS Imagine. The green and red layers of the aerial photography were combined with the NIR videography to form a false-colour composite image. Two sampling strategies were tested. The first stratified sampling on a per field basis, creating four points per hectare, randomly located within each field. The second strategy used the remotely sensed information to identify within-field variability classes for each field, using red-green difference or normalised difference vegetation index (NDVI) models. These variability classes were used as a sub-stratification framework with each class sampled at the same rate of 4 per hectare. For both strategies the sample points were generated within ESRI ArcView and were located in the field using dGPS. Maps of stone content were created using geostatistical methods and validated against samples collected on a 100 metre grid. It was concluded that combining the two image sources to create a within-field stratification framework improved the precision of the results obtained from field-survey.Numéro de notice : A2003-376 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1080/10106040308542285 Date de publication en ligne : 02/01/2008 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1080/10106040308542285 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=26456

[Termes IGN] restauration d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) This paper develops a knowledge discovery procedure for extracting knowledge of soil-landscape models from a soil map. It has broad relevance to knowledge discovery from other natural resource maps. The procedure consists of four major steps: data preparation, data preprocessing, pattern extraction, and knowledge consolidation. In order to recover true expert knowledge from the error-prone soil maps, our study pays specific attention to the reduction of representation noise in soil maps. The data preprocessing step has exhibited an important role in obtaining greater accuracy. A specific method for sampling pixels based on modes of environmental histograms has proven to be effective in terms of reducing noise and constructing representative sample sets. Three inductive learning algorithms, the See5 decision tree algorithm, Naïve Bayes, and artificial neural network, are investigated for a comparison concerning learning accuracy and result comprehensibility. See5 proves to be an accurate method and produces the most comprehensible results, which are consistent with the rules (expert knowledge) used in producing the soil map. The incorporation of spatial information into the knowledge discovery process is found not only to improve the accuracy of the extracted knowledge, but also to add to the explicitness and extensiveness of the extracted soil-landscape model. [Termes IGN] optimisation (mathématiques)Résumé : (Auteur) In the past, "active learning" strategies have been proposed for improving the convergence and accuracy of statistical classifiers. However, many of these approaches have large storage requirements or unnecessarily large computational burdens and, therefore, have been impractical for the largescale databases typically, found in remote sensing, especially hyperspectral applications. In this paper, we develop a practical online approach with only modest storage requirements. The new approach improves the convergence rate associated with the optimization of adaptive classifiers, especially in highdimensional remote sensing data. We demonstrate the new approach using PROBE2 hyperspectral imagery and find convergence time improvements of two orders of magnitude in the optimization of landcover classifiers. [Termes IGN] sylvicultureRésumé : (Auteur) The accuracy of remote sensed forest stand maps is traditionnally assessed by comparing a sample of the map data with actual ground conditions. Samples most often comprise clusters of pixels within homogeneous areas , therby avoiding problems associated with accuratly maping "edges" (e.g., transition areas between two forest types). Consequentely, they may well overstimable accuracy, but the degree of overestimation is unknown. This paper examines two important factors regarding accuracy assessment that are not well studied : the effect on estimates of accuracy of (1) the sampling method and (2) the exact placement of the samples. Overall accuracy, normalized accuracy, and the KHAT statistic are computed from error matrices generated from simple random sampling, stratified random sampling, and systematic sampling using totally random sample placement and samples chosen from homogeneous areas only. The results indicate that Kappa appears to be appropriate to use with systematic sampling and stratified random sampling as it is with simple random sampling, but suggest that sample placement may have more of an effect on estimates of accuracy than sampling method alone. Note de contenu : 1/ Mouvement Képlérien
