[Termes IGN] ombreRésumé : (Auteur) Hyperspectral data acquired from field-based platforms present new challenges for their analysis, particularly for complex vertical surfaces exposed to large changes in the geometry and intensity of illumination. The use of hyperspectral data to map rock types on a vertical mine face is demonstrated, with a view to providing real-time information for automated mining applications. The performance of two classification techniques, namely, spectral angle mapper (SAM) and support vector machines (SVMs), is compared rigorously using a spectral library acquired under various conditions of illumination. SAM and SVM are then applied to a mine face, and results are compared with geological boundaries mapped in the field. Effects of changing conditions of illumination, including shadow, were investigated by applying SAM and SVM to imagery acquired at different times of the day. As expected, classification of the spectral libraries showed that, on average, SVM gave superior results for SAM, although SAM performed better where spectra were acquired under conditions of shadow. In contrast, when applied to hypserspectral imagery of a mine face, SVM did not perform as well as SAM. Shadow, through its impact upon spectral curve shape and albedo, had a profound impact on classification using SAM and SVM. [Termes IGN] indexation documentaireRésumé : (Auteur) There is a significant commercial and research interest in location-based web search engines. Given a number of search keywords and one or more locations (geographical points) that a user is interested in, a location-based web search retrieves and ranks the most textually and spatially relevant web pages. In this type of search, both the spatial and textual information should be indexed. Currently, no efficient index structure exists that can handle both the spatial and textual aspects of data simultaneously and accurately. Existing approaches either index space and text separately or use inefficient hybrid index structures with poor performance and inaccurate results. Moreover, most of these approaches cannot accurately rank web-pages based on a combination of space and text and are not easy to integrate into existing search engines. In this paper, we propose a new index structure called Spatial-Keyword Inverted File for Points to handle point-based indexing of web documents in an integrated/efficient manner. To seamlessly find and rank relevant documents, we develop a new distance measure called spatial tf-idf. We propose four variants of spatial-keyword relevance scores and two algorithms to perform top-k searches. As verified by experiments, our proposed techniques outperform existing index structures in terms of search performance and accuracy. [Termes IGN] web sémantiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Numerous systems and tools have been developed for spatial decision support (SDS), but they generally suffer from a lack of re-usability, inconsistent terminology, and weak conceptualization. We introduce a collaborative effort by the SDS Consortium to build a SDS knowledge portal. We present the formal representation of knowledge about SDS, the various ontologies captured and made accessible by the portal, and the processes used to create them. We describe the portal in action, and the ways in which users can search, browse, and make use of its content. Finally, we discuss the lessons learned from this effort, and future development directions. Our work demonstrates how ontologies and semantic technologies can support the documentation and retrieval of dynamic knowledge in GIScience by offering flexible schemata instead of fixed data structures.
