[Vedettes matières IGN] Végétation et changement climatiqueRésumé : (auteur) Climate change is increasing temperatures globally and drought in many regions. If climate change continues at its current rate, the resilience of many ecosystems will likely be exceeded, altering their structure and function. A consistent understanding of the impacts, however, remains elusive due to the difficulty of obtaining data of field studies at different scales from local to regional. We review the impacts of climate change on terrestrial ecosystems of the Mediterranean region based mostly on long-term field experiments of climatic manipulation and monitored field sites in Catalonia (NE Spain). These studies provide diverse experimental and observational field evidences that rising temperatures, new patterns of precipitation and other climatic changes are already affecting ecosystems in this Mediterranean region. Rapid genetic, epigenetic and metabolomics changes in plants have been described. They have resulted in changes in morphology, physiology, growth, reproduction, and mortality. Some species are more vulnerable to these changes than others are, which has altered their competitive ability and thereby changed microbial, plant and animal community composition. Many other impacts have been observed in response to climate change, for example an increase in the emission of biogenic volatile organic compounds or an increased risk of fire and a decrease in the absorption of CO2 in periods of drought. A reduction of the capacity to retain nutrients and C in vegetation is accompanied, in the short term, by an increase in soil C and nutrient contents due to a decrease in the enzymatic capacity and mineralization of soil. The projected increase of torrential rainfalls introduces a scenario of uncertain changes in nutrient cycles, soil fertility and nutrient fluxes at medium and long terms. All these changes in water and nutrient availability suggest, though, net losses in the capacity of Mediterranean forests and shrublands to act as C sinks. Future research should quantify C in above- and belowground biomasses and soils under drought and warming, because this necessary information is lacking. Future studies should also investigate the losses of soil nutrients by leaching and erosion, and the possible feedbacks of land cover changes on water availability and regional climate. Policies of environmental and forestry management should take into account these impacts of the environmental and climatic conditions projected for the coming years and decades. [Termes IGN] TunisieRésumé : (auteur) Soil erosion is a natural process causing grave land degradation problems. In Tunisia, soil erosion represents a serious environmental problem. Both man-made and natural phenomenon is reducing acres of agricultural land. The problem of soil erosion by water is very critical in Lebna watershed. In fact, Lebna is a town in the northeast of Tunisia and it seems high time to protect water and ground resources and to prevent the Lebna dam situated in the downstream from silting. In this context, the application of geographic RUSLE model using the techniques of geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing has made it possible to assess the estimation of the soil erosion risk at the targeted watershed. This model is composed of several factors associated with climate, topography, soil and vegetation. The spatial distribution of annual average rate of soil loss resulting of this methodology shows an average of 24 ton/ha/year. Consequently, this method based on a combination of RUSLE as erosion model gave very similar results with bathymetric measures performed by Institute of Research for Development. It was about 29 ton/ha/year. Accordingly, Lebna watershed belongs to a zone of rather a steep erosive potential knowing that the maximum acceptable limit value of the erosive potential estimated is 12 ton/ha/year (Roose in Introduction à la gestion conservatoire de l’eau, de la biomasse et de la fertilité des sols (GCES), FAO, Rome, 1994). The results have shown that Lebna watershed has a serious risk on soil erosion on sloping land. The highest values are mainly associated with the steep slopes, poor conservation practices, low vegetation cover and high rainfall. The final soil loss map can be thus a base to plan appropriate strategies for decision-makers to avoid soil erosion risks and consequently to lengthen dam life. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (auteur) In the analysis of soil loss equation, the researchers have suggested two methods of deriving the slope steepness parameter. One method is having percentage slope term, while the other method is having sinθ as its term. In this paper, both the methods were analysed and compared in soil loss computation using Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation, over a Gangapur catchment area in India, having steep slopes. The soil loss rates derived were 0.98 million tonnes per year in case of steepness parameter derived by sinθ and 1.226 million tonnes per year in case of steepness parameter derived by percentage slope term. The observed rate of soil loss is 1.23 million tonnes per year. This methodology of soil loss estimation was also validated with similar catchment of Punegaon dam. It is concluded that for medium to steep terrain, percentage slope method estimates more accurate soil loss than other empirical methods for slope steepness estimation. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (auteur) Soil erosion is one of the major causes of land degradation in arid areas. Soil erosion models, e.g. the revised universal soil loss equation (RUSLE), use arithmetical expressions to explore relationships among various processes occurring in the terrain. The established model includes soil parameters, slope, climate and human activities to estimate the water erosion rate and sediment yield. In this study, an approach was adopted to integrate RUSLE model and geographic information system to detect erosion vulnerability and determine the soil erosion risk in the study area. The study area is situated in the Eastern Desert, Egypt. Ground truth data were examined to represent two regions: Luxor-Suhag and Suhag–ElMinya. These regions are exampled by four dry valleys named Sannor, Tarfa, Asyut and Qena, which are planned for agricultural development. The results indicate high risk of water erosion and sediment load discharge into the cultivated land in Luxor–Suhag region. The other region of Suhag–ElMinya is moderately affected by water and sediment load discharge. A higher soil erosion rate was found in Qena wadi followed by Asyut, then Tarfa and Sannur, respectively.
