[Vedettes matières IGN] Traitement de données GNSSRésumé : (Auteur) The continuous evolution of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) meteorology has led to an increased use of associated observations for operational modern low-latency numerical weather prediction (NWP) models, which assimilate GNSS-derived zenith total delay (ZTD) estimates. The development of NWP models with faster assimilation cycles, e.g., 1-h assimilation cycle in the rapid update cycle NWP model, has increased the interest of the meteorological community toward sub-hour ZTD estimates. The suitability of real-time ZTD estimates obtained from three different precise point positioning software packages has been assessed by comparing them with the state-of-the-art IGS final troposphere product as well as collocated radiosonde (RS) observations. The ZTD estimates obtained by BNC2.7 show a mean bias of 0.21 cm, and those obtained by the G-Nut/Tefnut software library show a mean bias of 1.09 cm to the IGS final troposphere product. In comparison with the RS-based ZTD, the BNC2.7 solutions show mean biases between 1 and 2 cm, whereas the G-Nut/Tefnut solutions show mean biases between 2 and 3 cm with the RS-based ZTD, and the ambiguity float and ambiguity fixed solutions obtained by PPP-Wizard have mean biases between 6 and 7 cm with the references. The large biases in the time series from PPP-Wizard are due to the fact that this software has been developed for kinematic applications and hence does not apply receiver antenna eccentricity and phase center offset (PCO) corrections on the observations. Application of the eccentricity and PCO corrections to the a priori coordinates has resulted in a 66 % reduction of bias in the PPP-Wizard solutions. The biases are found to be stable over the whole period of the comparison, which are criteria (rather than the magnitude of the bias) for the suitability of ZTD estimates for use in NWP nowcasting. A millimeter-level impact on the ZTD estimates has also been observed in relation to ambiguity resolution. As a result of a comparison with the established user requirements for NWP nowcasting, it was found that both the G-Nut/Tefnut solutions and one of the BNC2.7 solutions meet the threshold requirements, whereas one of the BNC2.7 solution and both the PPP-Wizard solutions currently exceed this threshold. [Vedettes matières IGN] Traitement de données GNSSRésumé : (Auteur) We provide a comprehensive overview of pseudorange biases and their dependency on receiver front-end bandwidth and correlator design. Differences in the chip shape distortions among GNSS satellites are the cause of individual pseudorange biases. The different biases must be corrected for in a number of applications, such as positioning with mixed signals or PPP with ambiguity resolution. Current state-of-the-art is to split the pseudorange bias into a receiver- and a satellite-dependent part. As soon as different receivers with different front-end bandwidths or correlator designs are involved, the satellite biases differ between the receivers and this separation is no longer practicable. A test with a special receiver firmware, which allows tracking a satellite with a range of different correlator spacings, has been conducted with live signals as well as a signal simulator. In addition, the variability of satellite biases is assessed through zero-baseline tests with different GNSS receivers using live satellite signals. The receivers are operated with different settings for multipath mitigation, and the changes in the satellite-dependent biases depending on the receivers’ configuration are observed. These deformation analyses are no longer based on individual points representing the deformation of an object at selected positions. Instead, they are based on a large number of scan points sampling the whole object. This fact either leads to challenges regarding metrological aspects as well as regarding modeling aspects:
– Estimating and quantifying spatial correlations between scan points and incorporating them into the deformation analysis
– Separating the laser scanners’ internal systematic errors from areal deformations
– Minimizing the bias at areal deformation analyses due to a worse network configuration and limited object knowledge
– Developing freeform parameterizations to reproduce arbitrary areal deformations of an object by individual parameters
– Incorporating an extended uncertainty model considering also model errors due to imperfect knowledge and simplification of the sampled object.
– Only when considering all of these aspects, laser scanner based deformation analyses can benefit from the potential of the areal object sampling. This study aims at naming and reasoning these aspects. [Vedettes matières IGN] Traitement de données GNSSRésumé : (auteur) In order to better understand the differential code biases (DCBs) of global navigation satellite system, the IGGDCB method is extended to estimate the intra- and inter-frequency biases of the global positioning system (GPS), GLONASS, BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS), and Galileo based on observations collected by the multi-GNSS experiment (MGEX) of the international GNSS service (IGS). In the approach of IGGDCB, the local ionospheric total electronic content is modeled with generalized triangular series (GTS) function rather than using a global ionosphere model or a priori ionospheric information. The DCB estimated by the IGGDCB method is compared with the DCB products from the Center for Orbit Determination in Europe (CODE) and German Aerospace Center (DLR), as well as the broadcast timing group delay (TGD) parameters over a 2-year span (2013 and 2014). The results indicate that GPS and GLONASS intra-frequency biases obtained in this work show the same precision levels as those estimated by DLR (about 0.1 and 0.2–0.4 ns for the two constellations, respectively, with respect to the products of CODE). The precision levels of IGGDCB-based inter-frequency biases estimated over the 24-month period are about 0.29 ns for GPS, 0.56 ns for GLONASS, 0.36 ns for BDS, and 0.24 ns for Galileo, respectively. Here, the accuracies of GPS and GLONASS biases are assessed relative to the products of CODE, while those of BDS and Galileo are compared with the estimates of DLR. In addition, the monthly stability indices of IGGDCB-based DCBs are 0.11 (GPS), 0.18 (GLONASS), 0.17 (BDS), and 0.14 (Galileo) ns for the individual constellation. [Termes IGN] simulationRésumé : (Auteur) Rock-forming minerals (such as feldspar and quartz) can be identified and quantified from thermal infrared (TIR) laboratory spectroscopy using spectral models. This paper uses synthetic airborne TIR spectra to test whether the hyperspectral Spatially Enhanced Broadband Array Spectrograph System (SEBASS) would theoretically be able to detect quartz and feldspar minerals and quantitatively predict mineral modes in felsic igneous rocks. Data from a previous laboratory study were used to simulate TIR spectra with band locations and noise levels of the SEBASS sensor. The quantitative partial least squares regression (PLSR) models from that study were applied to newly created synthetic SEBASS data, and results were compared with the predictions from the previous study. Predicted compositions based on SEBASS band positions are nearly identical (ρ = 0.995) to those based on laboratory resolution. Results are still reliable [prediction errors within 0.4% (absolute)] to the original laboratory PLSR predictions when adding up to 1% noise (about five times the SEBASS noise level) to the synthetic data. Prediction errors rapidly increase when noise levels beyond 1% are used. These results show that SEBASS' spectral resolution, spectral coverage, and signal-to-noise levels are sufficient to quantitatively predict quartz and feldspar amounts, and feldspar compositions with models based on PLSR. Spectral distortions, such as reduced spectral contrast, tilts, and vertical shifts, must be compensated for before these quantitative models are applied. A mean and standard deviation (MASD) normalization is proposed using a set of ground data for compensating systematic errors that are common to all image pixels.
