[Termes IGN] méthode robusteRésumé : (Auteur) The fused Bayesian-regularization (FBR) method from a companion paper provides a rigorous theoretical formalism for optimal estimation of the power spatial spectrum pattern (SSP) of the wave field scattered from the probing surface as it is required for enhanced radar imaging of the remotely sensed scenes. Being nonlinear and solution-dependent, the optimal FBR method requires extremely complex nonlinear solution-dependent operator inversions and, therefore, cannot be recommended as a numerically realizable estimator of the SSP. Here, we design a family of robust easy-to-implement FBR algorithms, provide the relevant computational recipes, and discuss their performances. We comment on the practical aspects of the robustified FBR estimators, such as numerical implementation and improvement in the output SNR. The advantage in using the proposed robust FBR method is demonstrated through simulations of enhancing the SAR images formed using the conventional matched filtering of the trajectory signal. [Termes IGN] variationRésumé : (Auteur) A combination of careful harmonic analysis and high-resolution numerical modelling of tides in altimeter data from TOPEX/Poseidon and ERS-2 satellites allows detailed calculation of seasonal and interannual variability of sea level in coastal areas of the north-east Pacific Ocean. These calculations show large changes in sea level in marginal seas during the 1997-8 El Nino and La Nina events, as well as providing information on the origin and life cycle of large anticyclonic eddies, observed to be generated off the west coast of Canada. [Termes IGN] zone humideRésumé : (Auteur) The backscattering coefficient ä from a time series of ERS-2 SAR data showed high correlation (r 2 =0.94) and high sensitivity to the observed surface soil moisture at a field scale. The observations agreed well with the simulations from the two surface scattering models tested in the study area. A single coincidence of the ERS-2 and RADARSAT missions, with two different polarizations, provided an opportunity to estimate soil moisture over a large area by inverting the Dubois model. The estimates were validated with the field observations over a small area and are in good agreement with standard error of estimate (SEE) equal to 1.01 cm3 cm-3. Furthermore, different soil moisture estimation methods were tested and compared with the observations to better understand the temporal and spatial variability of this important parameter. Soil moisture at a point was simulated using three hydrological models and compared with the radar backscattering and the point observations. There is a large variation in the responses among them. Simple statistical approaches viz., coefficient of variation and principal component analysis were used for mapping the spatial patterns of soil moisture over a large area using a time series of ERS-2 data. These simple methods helped to map areas where the moisture availability is not varying much. This information about soil moisture distribution is of vital importance to the hydrological processes especially the variable source area concept. Note de contenu : Introduction

[Termes IGN] penteRésumé : (Auteur) In this experiment, we derive and compare radar stereo and interferometric digital elevation models (DEMs) of a study site in Djibouti, East Africa. A Radarsat stereo pair, as well as Radarsat and ERS-2 interferometric data, comprise the test images. The primary objective of the study was to analyse and compare the results obtained by the two techniques and explore possible synergisms between them. We find that in regions of high coherence, the DEMs produced by interferometry are of much better quality than the stereo result. However, the corresponding error histograms also show some pronounced errors due to decorrelation and phase-unwrapping problems on forested mountain slopes. On the other hand, the more robust stereo reconstruction, with an error standard deviation of 45m, is able to capture the general terrain shape, although finer ' surface details are lost. In the second part of our experiment, we demonstrate that merging the stereoscopic and interferometric DEMs by applying a user-defined weighting function to a filtered coherence map can significantly improve the accuracy of the computed elevation maps Numéro de notice : A2003-343 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1080/0143116031000115139 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1080/0143116031000115139 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=22638
