[Termes IGN] texture du solRésumé : (auteur) The present study investigates the potential of synthetic aperture radar in demonstrating the relative percentage of sand, silt and clay content in the soil. The contribution of vegetation and topography in the backscattering coefficient has been significantly reduced by employing the terrain correction model, dual polarized SAR vegetation index and water cloud model. The target parameters namely ‘Soil Roughness (hrms-soil)’ and ‘Dielectric Constant’ (ε′vv−soil ) has arrived from cross-polarization ratio and modified Dubois model. The extracted target parameters are sufficiently correlated with in situ sand (R2 = 0.81) and clay measurements (R2 = 0.78). The relative percentage of silt was mapped by the novel idea of performing the correlation analysis between hrms-soil and ε′vv−soil and thus represented the percentage of silt with reasonable accuracy (R2 = 0.77). From the soil triangle formed with three estimated target parameters, we found that the clay category has shared around 35% of the total area followed by sandy loam (23%). [Termes IGN] Vienne (capitale Autriche)Résumé : (auteur) We present a comprehensive methodological framework for structural deformation monitoring of critical infrastructure assets based on differential SAR interferometry. By employing persistent scatterer interferometry, deformation time series in line-of-sight are derived from freely available Sentinel-1 single look complex products. These raw time series are analysed and refined using an extensive post-processing chain to obtain daily rates for vertical and horizontal deformation components. The post-processing includes cleaning, smoothing and a temperature correction to account for different sensing times in ascending and descending orbits. Longitudinal clustering of time series is used to reveal spatial patterns in the single epoch deformation series. Seasonal trend decomposition of the aggregated time series is performed to separate deformation trends from seasonal deformations. The applicability of the framework is showcased at the example of an integral concrete bridge located in the port of Vienna. Results are validated against in situ deformation measurements. The presented framework constitutes a blueprint for the continuous monitoring of critical infrastructure assets using satellite interferometry, which may supplement conventional structural health monitoring. [Termes IGN] tomographie radarRésumé : (auteur) This paper addresses forest height estimation for boreal forests at the test site of Edson in Alberta, Canada, using dual-baseline PolInSAR dataset measured by Intermap’s single-pass system. This particular dataset is acquired by using both ping-pong and non-ping-pong modes, which permit forming a dual-baseline TomoSAR configuration, i.e., an extreme configuration for tomographic processing. A tomographic approach, based on polarimetric Capon and MUSIC estimators, is proposed to estimate the elevation of tree top and of underlying ground, and hence forest height is estimated. The resulting forest DTM and DSM over the test site are validated against LiDAR-derived estimates, demonstrating the undeniable capability of the single-pass L-band PolInSAR system for forest monitoring. [Termes IGN] surveillance géologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Reclaimed airports usually have fragile geological structures and are susceptible to the uneven ground settlements caused by filling-material consolidation, underground construction, and dynamic loading from takeoff and landing of aircrafts. Therefore, deformation monitoring is of great significance to the safe operation of reclaimed airports. This study adopts an improved permanent-scatterer interferometric synthetic-aperture radar strategy to map the spatiotemporal deformation of Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport in China using ascending and descending Envisat/ASAR data acquired from 2007 to 2010 and Sentinel-1 data from 2015 to 2019. The results show that uneven settlements of the airport concentrate in the new reclaimed land. Then we explore the settlement characteristics of each functional area. Furthermore, we separate out the dynamic-load settlement of runway No. 2 and confirm the settlements caused by dynamic load. This study provides new ideas for studying deformation in similar fields, and technical references for the future construction of Shenzhen Airport. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (auteur) This article investigates the presence of a new interferometric signal in multilooked synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferograms that cannot be attributed to the atmospheric or Earth-surface topography changes. The observed signal is short-lived and decays with the temporal baseline; however, it is distinct from the stochastic noise attributed to temporal decorrelation. The presence of such a fading signal introduces a systematic phase component, particularly in short temporal baseline interferograms. If unattended, it biases the estimation of Earth surface deformation from SAR time series. Here, the contribution of the mentioned phase component is quantitatively assessed. The biasing impact on the deformation-signal retrieval is further evaluated. A quality measure is introduced to allow the prediction of the associated error with the fading signals. Moreover, a practical solution for the mitigation of this physical signal is discussed; special attention is paid to the efficient processing of Big Data from modern SAR missions such as Sentinel-1 and NISAR. Adopting the proposed solution, the deformation bias is shown to decrease significantly. Based on these analyses, we put forward our recommendations for efficient and accurate deformation-signal retrieval from large stacks of multilooked interferograms.
