[Termes IGN] voisinage (relation topologique)Résumé : (Auteur) The article focuses on one of the most often used GIS-based multicriteria analysis methods: the weighted linear combination (WLC). The WLC model has traditionally been used as a global approach based on the implicit assumption that its parameters do not vary as a function of geographical space. This assumption is often unrealistic in real-world situations. The article proposes a new approach to GIS-based multicriteria analysis. It develops a local form of the global WLC model. The range sensitivity principle is used as a central concept for developing the local WLC model. The principle postulates that the greater the range of criterion values is, the greater the weight assigned to that criterion should be. Consequently, the local criterion weight can be defined for each neighborhood within a study area as a function of the range of criterion values in a given neighborhood. The range of criterion values provides also the base for defining the local value function. The article presents the theory behind the local WLC modeling and illustrates an implementation of the model in a GIS environment. [Termes IGN] voisinage (relation topologique)Résumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a multi-scale method that computes robust geometric features on lidar point clouds in order to retrieve the optimal neighborhood size for each point. Three dimensionality features are calculated on spherical neighborhoods at various radius sizes. Based on combinations of the eigenvalues of the local structure tensor, they describe the shape of the neighborhood, indicating whether the local geometry is more linear (1D), planar (2D) or volumetric (3D). Two radius-selection criteria have been tested and compared for finding automatically the optimal neighborhood radius for each point. Besides, such procedure allows a dimensionality labelling, giving significant hints for classification and segmentation purposes. The method is successfully applied to 3D point clouds from airborne, terrestrial, and mobile mapping systems since no a priori knowledge on the distribution of the 3D points is required. Extracted dimensionality features and labellings are then favorably compared to those computed from constant size neighborhoods. [Termes IGN] voisinage (relation topologique)Résumé : (Auteur) Linearly nonseparability and class imbalance of very high resolution (VHR) imagery make feature selection for object-oriented classification quite challenging, while such characteristics, especially class imbalance, have usually been ignored in open literature. To cope with the challenges, this paper proposes a new graph-based feature selection method named locally weighted discriminating projection (LWDP). First, the popular graph-based criteria of feature selection are reformulated to present linear or nonlinear mapping in feature space. Second, weight matrices of graphs characterize dissimilarity rather than similarity between pairwise neighbors, to well-preserved local structure when the difference of distance between a sample and its neighbors is large. Finally, LWDP provides a new perspective to alleviate class imbalance at both global and local levels, by restricting the pairwise relationships in the weight matrices. Specifically, neighborhood unions are introduced to employ the local class distribution and class size to constrain pairwise relationships in the weight matrices when classifying unbalanced sample sets. To evaluate the performances of LWDP in low dimensions, a holistic scoring scheme is proposed to stress the performances under low dimensions. In addition, overall accuracy curves and Kappa Index of Agreement (KIA) curves, which exhibit KIA in dimensions, are also used. The experimental results show that LWDP and its kernel extension outperform the other classic or latest methods in processing unbalanced sample set of VHR airborne imagery. [Termes IGN] voisinage (relation topologique)Résumé : (auteur) The Eurovision Song Contest has been held every year since 1956. The originality of this contest lies in the points awarding system. There is no single jury but, on the contrary, each country is asked to award a given number of points to the countries which performed its favourite songs. Beyond the interest of such a system to collectively rank countries, it provides a long story of the swapped points between countries. Such information makes it possible to detect couples of countries {voter, performer} for whom votes are not exclusively guided by song quality. Currently the media covering the event regularly mention a bias in the votes distribution: according to them, this bias would be caused by geographical proximity and would lead to blocs of nearby countries which overwhelmingly vote for each other. In this article, we try to discuss this assumption. This latter requires to answer the following question: “how can we assess the influence of spatial proximity on the social ties formation?”. Besides this issue, several methodological challenges appear. First, we examine the votes of the 1993-2008 period and we identify the social ties of interest, that is the couples of countries {voter, performer} whose votes significantly diverge from the reference situation (i.e. a competition on song quality). Then, we compare the resulting social network with the spatial countries network by a well-suited statistical method to prove that “over-votes” concern nearby countries. Finally, we highlight clusters of countries tending to over-vote for each other and, in that respect, we define clustering criteria which make sense. We show that these blocs strongly structure the abnormally high votes of the 2009 event. This analysis method combines geographical and social networks and can be extended to the study of phenomena concerning relations between spatialised entities. [Termes IGN] voisinage (relation topologique)Résumé : (Auteur) Cartographic modelling operations provide powerful tools for analysing and manipulating geographic data in the raster data model. This research extends these operations to the vector data model. It first discusses how the spatial scopes of analysis can be defined for point, line, and polygon features analogous to the raster cell. Then it introduces the local, focal, and zonal operations available for vector features, followed by providing a prototype syntax that might guide the implementation of these operations. Through example applications, this research also demonstrates the usefulness of these operations by comparing them with traditional vector spatial analysis.
