[Termes IGN] résolution d'ambiguïtéRésumé : (Auteur) In this contribution, we study the dependence of the bootstrapped success rate on the precision of the GNSS carrier phase ambiguities. Integer bootstrapping is, because of its ease of computation, a popular method for resolving the integer ambiguities. The method is however known to be suboptimal, because it only takes part of the information from the ambiguity variance matrix into account. This raises the question in what way the bootstrapped success rate is sensitive to changes in precision of the ambiguities. We consider two different cases. (1) The effect of improving the ambiguity precision, and (2) the effect of using an approximate ambiguity variance matrix. As a by-product, we also prove that integer bootstrapping is optimal within the restricted class of sequential integer estimators. [Termes IGN] visualisation dynamiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This paper introduces a method for visually exploring spatio-temporal data or predictions that come as probability density functions, e.g. output of statistical models or Monte Carlo simulations, under different scenarios. For a given moment in time, we can explore the probability dimension by looking at maps with cumulative or exceedance probability while varying the attribute level that is exceeded, or by looking at maps with quantiles while varying the probability value. Scenario comparison is done by arranging the maps in a lattice with each panel reacting identically to legend modification, zooming, panning, or map querying. The method is illustrated by comparing different modelling scenarios for yearly NO2 levels in 2001 across the European Union. [Termes IGN] visualisation de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) A new tool for construction of models is presented that allows earth scientists without specialist knowledge in programming to convert theories to numerical computer models simulating landscape change through time. This tool, referred to as the PCRaster Python library, consists of: (1) the standard Python programming language, which is a generic, interpreted scripting language, supporting object oriented programming; (2) a large set of spatial and temporal functions on raster maps that are embedded in the Python language as an extension; (3) a framework provided as a Python class to construct and run iterative temporal models and to calculate error propagation with Monte Carlo simulation; and (4) visualization routines to display spatio-temporal data read and written by this framework. Python is a high-level programming language, and users of the tool do not have to be specialist computer programmers. Users of the PCRaster Python library can take advantage of several other Python libraries, such as extensions for matrix algebra and for modelling in three spatial dimensions. [Termes IGN] simulationRésumé : (Auteur) Understanding the limitations of environmental data is important for managing environmental systems effectively and for encouraging the responsible use of uncertain data. Explicit assessment of the uncertainties associated with environmental data, and their storage in a database, are therefore important. This paper presents a statistical framework for representing and simulating uncertain environmental variables. In general terms, an uncertain variable is completely specified by its probability distribution function (pdf). Pdfs are developed for objects with uncertain locations ('positional uncertainty') and uncertain attribute values ('attribute uncertainty'). Objects comprising multiple space-time locations are separated into 'rigid objects', where positional uncertainty cannot alter the internal geometry of the object, and 'deformable' objects, where positional uncertainty can vary between locations in one object. Statistical dependence is allowed between uncertainties in multiple locations in one object. The uncertainties associated with attribute values are also modelled with pdfs. The type and complexity of these pdfs depend upon the measurement scale and the space-time variability of the uncertain attribute. The framework is illustrated with examples. A prototype software tool for assessing uncertainties in environmental data, storing them within a database, and for generating realizations for use in Monte Carlo studies is also presented.
