[Termes IGN] structure géologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Practical and economie constraints prompt the need of obtaining structural geological information with reduced field effort. This paper prescrits a methodological strategy for deriving such information from remotely sensed (RS) images coupled with empirical tectonic models as a way of bridging from regional to local scales. The hypothesis that spatial organisation displayed by small-scale tectonic structures (and not only the large ones) could be correlated with the arrangement of natural linear features observed on RS imagery to allow inferences on the local geological structure was tested. Azimuth direction and subsidiarily length were found to be the most appropriate attributes for spatial characterisation and comparative analyses of line sets. Inferences made of tectonic structures and respective directional arrangements were based on a combination of qualitative (visual analysis of histograms) and statistical methods (non-parametric goodness-of-fit tests). The numerical evaluation of the results of tests expressed in terms of average degree of matching (91% to 95%) and errors (5% of omission errors and 31.2% of commission errors) showed a reasonable efficiency of the inferential approach in predicting the structural geological settings in lithological units as well as in mid-size areas (50 to 80 km 2 approximately). Potential applications of the inferential approach in terrain evaluation schemes, particularly for planning and engineering-related purposes, are envisaged. [Termes IGN] sylvicultureRésumé : (Auteur) This study focuses on the use of coarse spatial resolution (CR, pixel size about 1kM2) remote sensing data for land cover change detection and qualification. Assuming the linear mixing model for CR pixels, the problem is that both the multitemporal class feature and the pixel composition in terms of classes are unknown. The proposed algorithm is then based on the iterative alternate estimation of each unknown variable. At each iteration, the class features are estimated, thanks to the knowledge of the composition of so pixels, and then the pixel composition is re-estimated knowing the class features. The subset of known composition pixels is the sub of pixels where no change has occurred, i.e. the previous land cover map is still valid. It is derived automatically by removing at each iteration the pixels where the new composition estimation disagrees with the former one. Finally, for the final estimation of the pixel composition, a Markovian chain model is used to guide the solution, i.e. the previous land cover map is used as a 'reminder' 'memory' term. This approach has been first validated using simulated data with different spatial resolution ratios. Then, the detection of forest change with SPOT-VGT-S 10 has been considered as an actual application case. Finally, the method has been applied to change detection on the Val de Saône watershed between the 1980s and 2000. The results obtained from three coarse resolution series, NOAA/AVHRR, SPOT/VGT-S 10 and SPOT/VGT-P, have been compared. [Termes IGN] système de numérisation mobileRésumé : (Auteur) Direct georeferencing, also referred to as direct platform orientation (DPO), is defined as direct measurement of the imaging sensor external orientation parameters (EOP), using positioning and orientation sensors, such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) and Inertial Navigation System (INS) or Inertial Measurement Unit (Imu). Imaging sensors, most frequently supported by the Dpo technique, are digital cameras, lidar systems, multi-spectral or hyper-spectral scanners, or interferometric synthetic aperture radar (INSAR). While for scanning sensors, the use of Dpo is compulsory, frame digital cameras can also directly benefit from this modern technique of sensor orientation. With direct sensor orientation, the requirement for ground control, tie-point matching and aerotriangulation (AT) is significantly reduced, or even entirely eliminated, resulting in shorter times of data acquisition and processing, and streamlined and highly automated data workflow and quality control. Most of the time, the requirement for ground control points is limited to periodic system calibrations and quality control check. Direct georeferencing is considered a fundamental technology of conventional mobile mapping systems (MMS). Despite significant progress in GSP/INS-based direct georeferencing technology in the last decade, there is still room for improvement in terms of better accuracy and better tolerance to GPS outages. This paper is focused on three error modeling and compensation techniques that could potentially improve GPS/INS system's performance on both land-based and airborne platforms : (1) extended gravity compensation, (2) IMU signal de-noising, and (3) stochastic modeling of IMU errors. [Termes IGN] surveillance écologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) A probalistic method has been developed that distinguishes oil spills from other similar sea surface features in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. It considers both the radiometric and geometric characteristics of the areas being tested. In order to minimize the operator intervention, it adopts automatic selection criteria to extract the potentially polluted areas from the images. The method has an a priori percentage of correct classification higher than 90% on the training dataset ; the performance is confirmed on a different dataset of verified slicks. Some analysis have been conducted using images with different radiometric and geometric resolutions to test its suitability with SAR images different from European Remote Sensing (ERS) satellite ones. The system and its ability to detect and classify oil and non-oil surface features are described. Starting from a set of verified oil spills detected offshore and over coastline, the ability of SAR to reveal oil spills is tested by analysing wind intensity, deduced from the images itself, and the distance from the coast.
