[Termes IGN] TurquieRésumé : (auteur) The number of traffic fatalities continues to rise steadily throughout the world. In 2016, it reached 1.35 million. The spatiotemporal analysis makes a big contribution when used with spatial and statistical analysis together in terms of the understanding of the change. This study focuses on spatiotemporal fluctuations in traffic accident hotspots to gain useful insights into traffic safety in Turkey in 2004–2017 period. For this purpose, 372,800 accident records are arranged on a GIS platform. The areas that lack traffic safety and require more attention were determined using spatial, temporal, and empirical Bayesian analysis. Although similar results were detected with spatiotemporal and empiric Bayes analysis, spatiotemporal analysis was used to understand where traffic accidents clustering, and how the trends of traffic accidents change whether are increasing or decreasing. As a result of the analysis, an increasing trend has been found in many locations in Turkey from 2004 to 2017. [Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) Biomass and carbon content are essential indicators for monitoring forest ecosystems and their role in climate action, but their estimation is not straightforward. A typical approach to solve these limitations has been the estimation of tree or stand biomass based on forest inventory data, using either allometric equations or biomass expansion factors. Many allometric equations exist, but very few studies have assessed how the calculation methods used may impact outcomes and how this impact depends on genera, functional group, climate or forest structural attributes. In this study we evaluate the differences in biomass estimates yielded by the most widely used biomass equations in Spain. We first quantify the discrepancies at tree level and among the main forest tree species. We observed that the divergences in carbon estimations between different equations increased with tree size, especially in the case of hardwoods and for diameters beyond the range used to calibrate the equations. At the plot level, we found considerable differences between the biomass values predicted using different methods (above 25% in one out of three plots), which constitutes a warning against the uncritical choice of equations to determine biomass or carbon values. The spatial representation of the differences revealed geographical patterns related to the dominance of fast-growing species such as Eucalyptus or Pinus pinaster, with a minor effect of forest structure, and almost no effect of climate. Finally, we observed that differences were mostly due to the data source rather than the modelling approach or equation used. Based on our results, BEF equations seem a valid and unbiased option to provide nation-level estimations of carbon balance, although local equations should preferably be used if they are available for the target area. [Termes IGN] sol arableRésumé : (auteur) Prediction and accurate digital soil mapping (DSM) of soil organic carbon (SOC) at a local scale is a key factor for any agro-ecological modelling. This study aims to use remote sensing and terrain derivatives to provide a reliable method for SOC prediction. An advanced geostatistical-based empirical Bayesian Kriging regression (EBKR) method was used and performance was compared with the artificial neural network (ANN) and hybrid ANN, i.e. ANN-OK (ordinary kriging) and ANN-CK (cokriging). The result showed that the hybrid ANN model performs better than ANN, whereas the EBKR method outperforms all other methods with the highest R2 of 0.936. The DSM map shows that the highest SOC concentration was found in easternmost part of the study area with grass and agricultural land. This work shows the robustness of the EBKR prediction method over other techniques. The study will also aid the policymakers in adopting sustainable land use management. Each year, thousands of fish, sea birds, sea turtles, and other marine species are killed by ingesting or becoming entangled with plastic debris. Reducing marine plastic pollution is particularly challenging for developing countries owing to the wide dispersal of plastic waste disposal and scarce public cleanup resources. To costeffectively reduce marine pollution, resources should target “hotspot” areas, where large volumes of plastic litter have a high likelihood of ending up in the ocean. Using new public information, this study develops a hotspot targeting strategy for Accra and Lagos, which are major sources of marine plastic pollution in West Africa. The same global information sources can support hotspot analyses for many other coastal cities that generate marine plastic waste. The methodology combines georeferenced household survey data on plastic use, measures of seasonal variation in marine plastic pollution from satellite imagery, and a model of plastic waste transport to the ocean that uses information on topography, seasonal rainfall, drainage to rivers, and river transport to the ocean. For cleanup, the results for West Africa assign the highest locational priority to areas with heavy plastic-waste disposal along river channels or in steeply sloped locations with high rainfall runoff potential near rivers. They assign the highest temporal priority to just before the onset of the first-semester rainy season, when runoff from the first rains transports large volumes of plastic waste that have accumulated during the dry season. Existing anti-spoofing algorithms concentrate on the detection of these attacks; however, they are unable to prevent the counterfeit signal, which causes false position and timing results. Some defense techniques require the assistance of other sensors or measurement devices located at different positions. These impose many restrictions on the practical applications of anti-spoofing algorithms. In this study, the multicorrelator estimator, designed initially to prevent multipath signals, is applied to detect and mitigate spoofing. A statistic is proposed for spoofing detection based on the code phase difference between counterfeit and authentic signals. This statistic can significantly reduce the rate of false and missed alarms. Assuming there is no spoofing at the beginning, the pseudorange difference between epochs is derived for spoofing validation, allowing spoofing suppression in a single receiver. Based on this study, an estimation-validation-mitigation structure is presented. A robust extended Kalman filter is proposed to reduce gross errors in the multicorrelator measurements and improve estimation accuracy. Public-spoofing datasets recorded in real environments were used to verify the performance of different parameters. A total of 81 complex correlators were introduced in the experiments. Results show that using the proposed scheme, the position or time offsets caused by spoofing drop from 600 m to approximately 20 m, and the spoofing is mitigated considerably. The proposed method provides an effective anti-spoofing structure that requires only a single antenna and does not require additional sensors.
