[Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (éditeur) This book aims at presenting the estimation methods used in the first cycle of the National Forest Inventory in Romania. Romania is the twelfth largest country in Europe, and its forest vegetation area is larger than that of Austria and Switzerland together. Yet the last forest inventory in Romania was made in 1984 and based on forest management plans, not on specific sampling and measurements.
The expectations from the inventory were therefore very high and diverse. Like any other modern inventory, RO-NFI was designed to be a multi-purpose inventory which would deliver quantitative data to the ministry and forest administrations, but also to provide the data required for the periodical reporting such as the greenhouse gas reporting. While it started from scratch, the National Forest Inventory has integrated the most recent sampling methods used in countries with similar forest conditions, such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The book presents the sampling methods and conclude on the effects of the estimation method on the national-level growing stock, which brings relevant information for professionals from the field, but also for policy-desion makers interested in the use of national forest inventories for reporting on forest carbon emissions and storage.Note de contenu : Preface

[Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) Airborne laser scanning (ALS) data is nowadays often available for forest inventory purposes, but adequate field data for constructing new forest attribute models for each area may be lacking. Thus there is a need to study the transferability of existing ALS-based models among different inventory areas. The objective of our study was to apply ALS-based mixed models to estimate the diameter, height and crown base height of individual sawlog sized Scots pines (Pinus sylvestrisL.) at three different inventory sites in eastern Finland. Different ALS sensors and acquisition parameters were used at each site. Multivariate mixed-effects models were fitted at one site and the models were validated at two independent test sites. Validation was carried out by applying the fixed parts of the mixed models as such, and by calibrating them using 1–3 sample trees per plot. The results showed that the relative RMSEs of the predictions were 1.2–6.5 percent points larger at the test sites compared to the training site. Systematic errors of 2.4–6.2 percent points also emerged at the test sites. However, both the RMSEs and the systematic errors decreased with calibration. The results showed that mixed-effects models of individual tree attributes can be successfully transferred and calibrated to other ALS inventory areas in a level of accuracy that appears suitable for practical applications. [Termes IGN] largeur de bandeRésumé : (auteur) Recently, the Sentinel-2 (S2) satellite constellation was deployed for mapping and monitoring the Earth environment. Images acquired by the sensors mounted on the S2 platforms have three levels of spatial resolution: 10, 20, and 60 m. In many remote sensing applications, the availability of images at the highest spatial resolution (i.e., 10 m for S2) is often desirable. This can be achieved by generating a synthetic high-resolution image through data fusion. To this end, researchers have proposed techniques exploiting the spectral/spatial correlation inherent in multispectral data to sharpen the lower resolution S2 bands to 10 m. In this paper, we propose a novel method that formulates the sharpening process as a solution to an inverse problem. We develop a cyclic descent algorithm called S2Sharp and an associated tuning parameter selection algorithm based on generalized cross validation and Bayesian optimization. The tuning parameter selection method is evaluated on a simulated data set. The effectiveness of S2Sharp is assessed experimentally by comparisons to state-of-the-art methods using both simulated and real data sets.
