[Termes IGN] régressionRésumé : (Auteur) Spectral imagery using micro-unmanned aerial vehicles is rapidly advancing. This study compared reflectance calibration methods for imagery acquired using the Parrot Sequoia imager, a commercial multispectral sensor package. For the study, two orthomosaics were calibrated using 1) a manufacturer-suggested AIRINOV standard correction using PIX4D software and 2) the Empirical Line Calibration (ELC) method using ground radiometric data on specific in-scene targets. Both scenes were analyzed for target spectral agreement by ground radiometric survey. Regression analysis demonstrated more favorable target correlation for the ELC imagery than the AIRINOV-calibrated imagery, with Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) analysis supporting these results. Finally, classification maps were produced between the data sets. Error analysis resulted in an overall accuracy of 24% for the AIRINOV map compared to ELC-based truth data, with a considerable number of pixels associated with brighter targets unclassified. These results demonstrate the need for standardized calibration procedures in the spectral correction of small-format remote sensor data. [Termes IGN] valeur aberranteRésumé : (Auteur) In this study, the quality control of tide gauge observations is investigated by two methods of least square (LS-HE) and total least square harmonic estimation (TLS-HE). Particularly, it is shown how to deal with unexpected anomalies, including outliers, offset and gap in the time series of sea level height. To do so, at first the time series is constructed and then a method based on variance threshold is used to eliminate the possible outliers in the observations. Subsequently, a noise assessment algorithm is implemented and the signal is processed to find the possible times of offsets and to eliminate their corresponding observations from the time series. Finally, the signal is checked to find the periods of gap within the time series and then the gap area is predicted with correct observations. Gap filling analysis is performed in two contexts. In the first, only the significant frequencies of tide are considered in the modelling procedure, while in the second, all possible frequencies according to the period of observations are included. Our results show that for modelling and gap filling, the TLS-HE method has a better performance in a comparison with LS-HE method. Although, for offset and outlier detections, the LS-HE is recommended. It also indicates that the TLS-HE method provides a regular solution for gap filling analysis while LS-HE method needs a regularization scheme for which LSQR regularization is used. To effectively store, retrieve, and transmit these data sets, efficient multi-scale data representations that are compatible with the underlying structure of the Digital Earth framework are required. In this article, we describe several such techniques and their properties: namely, how to represent data in the multi-scale cell hierarchy of a discrete global grid system (DGGS) or in the multi-scale hierarchy of a customized wavelet transform. We also discuss how these techniques can be tuned to be applicable to the A3H DGGS. Kowalski) Baral, Queloz, and Hosoya cause extensive damage on European ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.). Heritable variation in susceptibility to ash dieback has been observed among ash trees in natural and planted populations, but it is not clear how variation in susceptibility influences reproductive fitness.
Aims : We hypothesize that healthier male and female trees contribute more gametes to the following generation compared to unhealthy ones.
Methods : We tested the hypothesis by studying gender, seed production, and paternal success in a clonal field trial with 39 replicated clones. In the trial, the susceptibility level of each clone has been recorded in terms of percent crown damage since 2007. We used a linear regression model to explore the relationship between susceptibility and reproductive success (female and male).
Results : The clones revealed a clear gender dimorphism with an approximate 2:2:1 male/female/hermaphrodite ratio. Females with low levels of crown damage produced substantially more seeds compared to highly damaged females. The male clone with the lowest level of susceptibility was the most effective pollen donor, but highly susceptible males also sired some offspring.

[Termes IGN] théorie des probabilitésRésumé : (auteur) Biomass inventories that employ airborne laser scanning (ALS) require models that can predict tree diameter at breast height (DBH) from ALS-derived tree dimensions, as ALS can usually not directly measure DBH due to scanning angle, inadequate point density and canopy obstruction. Although some work has been done in using correlation as a measure of dependence to describe the linear relationship between variable means, none has investigated the copula-based measure of dependence for the prediction of DBH from ALS-derived height and crown diameter. Following the application of a locally-estimated copula method to 79 sample plots in eastern Finland, we compared the performance of the copula method with a baseline local regression (LOESS) model and an ordinary least squares (OLS) model. We found that the copula method outperformed the OLS model by decreasing 30% of the root-mean-squared error (RMSE). The copula method performed slightly better than the LOESS model for the original sample, but the results of the bootstrap samples showed that the variance in RMSE was sixteen times lower in the copula method than the LOESS model, suggesting that the copula had a more consistent and robust model performance across the 10,000 bootstrap samples. Moreover, while the LOESS model only predicts the conditional mean of the response variable, the copula method can also predict median and other quantiles.
