[Termes IGN] télémétrie laser sur satelliteRésumé : (auteur) The double geodetic Corsica site, which includes Ajaccio-Aspretto and Cape Senetosa (40 km south Ajaccio) in the western Mediterranean area, has been chosen to permit the absolute calibration of radar altimeters. It has been developed since 1998 at Cape Senetosa and, in addition to the use of classical tide gauges, a GPS buoy is deployed every 10 days under the satellites ground track (10 km off shore) since 2000. The 2002 absolute calibration campaign made from January to September in Corsica revealed the necessity of deploying different geodetic techniques on a dedicated site to reach an accuracy level of a few mm: in particular, the French Transportable Laser Ranging System (FTLRS) for accurate orbit determination, and various geodetic equipment as well as a local marine geoid, for monitoring the local sea level and mean sea level. TOPEX/Poseidon altimeter calibration has been performed from cycle 208 to 365 using M-GDR products, whereas Jason-1 altimeter calibration used cycles from 1 to 45 using I-GDR products. For Jason-1, improved estimates of sea-state bias and columnar atmospheric wet path delay as well as the most precise orbits available have been used. The goal of this article is to give synthetic results of the analysis of the different error sources for the tandem phase and for the whole studied period, as geophysical corrections, orbits and reference frame, sea level, and finally altimeter biases. Results are at the millimeter level when considering one year of continuous monitoring; they show a great consistency between both satellites with biases of 6 ± 3 mm (ALT-B) and 120 ± 7 mm, respectively, for TOPEX/Poseidon and Jason-1. [Termes IGN] vue perspectiveRésumé : (Auteur) The Intensity Hue Saturation (IHS) transformation is used to integrate the high spectral resolution, provided by hyperspectral data (Airborne Visible Infrared Imaging Spectrometer, AVIRIS), and the surface texture information, derived from radar data (Topographic Synthetic Aperture Radar, TOPSAR), into a single image of an urban area. This transformed image is superimposed on the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data derived from TOPSAR data to create a 3D perspective view. The ambiguity of several urban land cover types is resolved to a larger degree using the higher spectral and spatial resolutions and the synergistic visual content provided by the fused image in a 3D perspective. For urban areas that are at risk from geological hazards (e.g., avalanches, mudflows, and debris flows), the fused image provides a costeffective product, rich in the information necessary for assessment and mitigation of these hazards. Instrument performance was validated and carefully monitored through a combination of calibration approaches : solar, lunar, earth (vicarious) and atmospheric observations complemented by onboard calibration lamps and extensive pre-launch calibration. Innovative techniques for spectral calibration of space-based sensors were also tested and validated. Instrument performance met or exceeded predictions including continued operation well beyond the planned one year program. [Termes IGN] spectromètre imageurRésumé : (Auteur) The Earth Observing One (EO-1) satellite, a part of National Aeronautics and Space Administration's New Millenium Program, was developed to demonstrate new technologies and strategies for improved earth observations. It was launched from Vandenburg Air Force Base on November 21, 2000. The EO-1 satellite contains three observing instruments supported by a variety of newly developed space technologies. The Advanced Land Imager (ALI) is a prototype for a new generation of Landsat-7 Thematic Mapper. The Hyperion Imaging Spectrometer is the first high spatial resolution imaging spectrometer to orbit the earth. The Linear Etalon Imaging Spectral Array (LEISA) Atmospheric corrector (LAC) is a high spectral resolution wedge imaging spectrometer designed to measure atmospheric water vapor content. Instrument performances are validated and carefully monitored through a combination of radiometric calibration approaches : solar. lunar, stellar, earth (vicarious), and atmospheric observations complemented by onboard calibration lamps and extensive prelaunch calibration. Techniques for spectral calibration of spacebased sensors have been tested and validated with Hyperion. ALI and Hyperion instrument performance continue to meet at exceed predictions well beyond the planned oneyear program. This paper reviews the EO-1 satellite system and provides details of the instruments and their performance as measured during the first year of operation. Calibration techniques and tradeoffs between alternative approaches are discussed. An overview of the science applications for instrument performance assessment is presented.
