[Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Ground-based digital imager systems in the visible and near infrared region of the solar spectrum have the potential to nicely complement existing instruments and observation networks of National Weather Services with very accurate, high spatial and temporal resolution, 2D and 3D macroscopic cloud data such as cloud amount, cloud-base height and 3D cloud-base motion. This paper discusses two current approaches to ground-based cloud sensing: the prototype instrument used at ETH/MeteoSwiss within Cloudmap and Cloudmap2 for stereoscopy tests, and a Daylight Visible/NIR Whole Sky Imager (WSI) system developed and fielded by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO). The article includes descriptions of the radiometric and geometric calibration methods. Cloud amount, cloud-base height and cloud-base motion results from two ETH/MeteoSwiss measurement campaigns and from the operational WSI use at the German Weather Service (DWD) are shown. Finally, a case study with coincident satellite and ground data illustrates that ground-based digital imager systems are an interesting technique to validate satellite-based cloud-top heights and cloud-top motion winds of vertically thin clouds. [Termes IGN] orientation interneRésumé : (Auteur) The linear push-broom camera is one of the most important imaging systems in modern photogrammetry and remote sensing to collect high-resolution digital panchromatic and multispectral images for comprehensive evaluation of natural resources and environmental conditions. Most commercial high-resolution satellites such as SPOT-5, Ikonos-2, and QuickBird use similar sensors. Airborne sensors such as the ADS40 and STARIMAGER® also use the push-broom approach to collect multi-channel, seamless image strips for linear objects such as roads, railways, rivers, seashores, electric power lines, pipe lines, and high-rise building areas. Other commercial hyperspectral sensors also use the push-broom approach to collect digital images for remote sensing applications.
High performance linear cameras require high resolution geometric, spectral, and radiometric calibration. This topic has not been covered in the scientific literature. Although the self-calibration is successful to compute the calibration parameters of frame camera, it is denied in our tests since the linear camera’s calibrated parameters are dependent on the accuracy of on-board GPS/IMU position and attitude data. In this paper, a rigorous calibration method is presented. This approach has been successfully used in our developed airborne three-line scanner (TLS) imaging system STARIMAGER® in the last five years. The method can accurately compute TLS’s focal length, principle point location, lens distortion, CCD pixel size, CCD curve deformation, and convergence angles between each CCD line sensor on the focal plane. Without any modification, it can be directly applied to single linear sensors and multi-linear sensors. [Termes IGN] Multi-Angle Imaging SpectroradiometerRésumé : (Auteur) One important objective of the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) is retrieving global aerosol loading and microphysical properties. Accuracy depends on many factors, including the availability of a complete catalogue of particle types with their associated size distributions, shapes, single-scattering albedos, vertical profiles, and spectral radiative characteristics. Co-equal to this need is the availability of a well-designed, well-characterized instrument, with a calibration that is maintained post-launch. This allows accurate radiance and retrieval products to be made, adjusting for instrument changes. MISR performance has been intensively studied throughout the design, pre-flight, and post-launch mission phases. To establish the absolute radiometric scale, annual vicarious calibration (VC) exercises have been conducted. In addition, an on-board-calibrator (OBC) allows more frequent testing of camera degradations. Together, the VC and OBC processes have allowed MISR to achieve an absolute calibration uncertainty of 4% or better (1? confidence level) for bright land targets. Additional fine-tunings have been made following analysis of lunar-view campaign data, and from a statistical analysis of Earth observations. These studies led to slight camera-to-camera adjustments, which are important in improving the aerosol retrieval process. Validation of the response at the lower end of the dynamic range has also been accomplished using a dark-water study. With these studies complete, MISR calibration is now in an operational mode, and data users can be assured the resulting data products are stable with time. Such records meet the needs of a program designed to support climate change and provide long-term monitoring of the Earth's atmosphere and radiative fluxes. [Termes IGN] orthoimageRésumé : (Auteur) The IGN digital camera project was established in the early 1990s. The first research surveys were carried out in 1996 and the digital camera was first used in production in 2000. In 2004 approximately 10 French departments (accounting for 10% of the territory) were covered with a four-head camera system and since summer 2005 all IGN imagery has been acquired digitally. Nevertheless the camera system is still evolving, with tests on new geometric configurations being continuously undertaken. The progressive integration of the system in IGN production workflows has allowed IGN to keep the system evolving in accordance with production needs. Remaining problems are due to specific camera characteristics such as CCD format, the optical quality of off-the-shelf lenses, and because some production tools are ill-adapted to digital images with a large dynamic range. However, when considering the pros and cons of integrating these images into production lines, the disadvantages are largely balanced by the numerous benefits this technology offers.
