Here we are interesting in surveys mixing image and laser scanning, for metrological applications. Since data need to be registered with the best accuracy, we are faced to a 2D-3D pose estimation problem. In most cases, scenes contain numerous segments, which are good orientation dues. We use these segments to find pose. Therefore, targets are less prevalent for location and orientation estimation purpose. This means less field operations during data acquisition. Since some scenes with very few straight lines can leave insufficient spatial constraints, we reintroduce points. We can deal with feature points to reinforce the System. Then, the algorithm simultaneously minimizes an energy function managing distances between 3D points projection in images and image points, and distances on segments ends. Precise determination of primitives in 2D and 3D data leads to fine orientation. Using subpixelar regression after an edge detection gives high-quality estimates for 2D segments. In point clouds, 3D segments corne from plane intersection. We discuss relative influence of features through uncertainty assessment. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Developing a three-dimensional (3D) data model for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is an essential and complex issue. 3D modelling in GIS is becoming ever more important for the development of cyber cities and digital earth, which have recently become feasible. A competent 3D model forms an efficient foundation for 3D visualization, query and spatial analysis. As a development of the existing 3D models, this study proposes particular improvements in handling complex 3D objects. We present an object-oriented data model for handling complex 3D objects in GIS. First, the conceptual data model is developed based on the principle of object-oriented (00) data modelling. This model is designed based on the following three basic geometric elements: node, segment and triangle. Accordingly, the abstract geometric objects are defined: including points, lines, surfaces and volumes. Second, the corresponding 3D logical model is designed based on the defined abstract objects and the relationships between them. Third, a formal representation of the 3D spatial objects is described in detail. Fourth, a prototype 3D GIS is developed based on the proposed 3D data model. Finally, we describe the results of an experimental study to reconstruct 3D objects using this 3D GIS and a comparison with the performance of other 3D data models. The proposed model is able to handle complex objects, such as complex buildings and TV towers, which is an essential functionality for building large-scale cyber cities, such as for Hong Kong. The proposed data model proves to be very efficient, particularly in visualization and rendering. The experimental results show which the data volume of the proposed model is compacted and the visualization speed for 3D objects is improved, compared with the existing models. [Termes IGN] télédétection en hyperfréquenceRésumé : (Auteur) This paper deals with the automatic extraction of building outlines using a pair of optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. The aim is to define areas of interest for building height reconstruction in radargrammetric or interferometric applications. Since high resolution optical satellite images are now easily available, such methods merging SAR and optical information could be useful to improve 3D SAR reconstruction (the optical image giving only information on the scene organization). Both SAR and optical data bring complementary information about the building presence and shape. The proposed method is divided into two main steps : first, extraction of partial potential building footprints on the SAR image, and then shape detection on the optical one using the previously extracted primitives (lines). Two methods of shape detection have been developed, the simplest one finding the "best" rectangular shape and the second one searching for a more complicated shape in case of failure of the first one. Results for an industrial area acquired with two incidence angles for the SAR image are presented and analyzed. [Termes IGN] segment de droiteRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a novel method for semiautomatically constructing building models from photogrammetric 3D line segments of buildings, i.e., their roof edges. The method, which we call "Split MergeShape" (SMS), can treat both complete line segments as well as incomplete line segments due to image occlusions. The proposed method is comprised of five major parts: (1) the creation of the Region of Interest (ROI) and preprocessing, (2) splitting the model by using the 3D line segments to construct a combination of roof primitives, (3) merging connected roof primitives to complete the boundary of each building, (4) shaping each building rooftop by connected coplanar analysis and coplanar fitting, and (5) quality assurance. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method can soundly rebuild the topology from the 3D line segments and reconstruct building models with up to a 98 percent success rate. The proposed SMS method has been proved reliable and effective, with a high degree of automation, even when groups of connected buildings or complex types of buildings are processed.
