[Termes IGN] modèle mathématiqueRésumé : (auteur) Geographical phenomena fall into two categories: scaleful phenomena and scale-free phenomena. The former have characteristic scales, and the latter have no characteristic scale. Conventional quantitative and mathematical methods can only be applied effectively to scaleful geographical phenomena. In this article, a comparison between scaleful and scale-free geographical systems is drawn by means of simple geographical mathematical models. The main viewpoints are as below. First, scaleful phenomena can be researched by conventional mathematical methods, while scale-free phenomena should be studied using a theory based on scaling such as fractal geometry. Second, the scaleful phenomena belong to distance-based geo-space, while the scale-free phenomena belong to dimension-based geo-space. Third, four approaches to distinguish scale-free phenomena from scaleful phenomena are presented: scaling transform, probability distribution, autocorrelation and partial autocorrelation functions, and ht-index. In practice, a complex geographical system usually possesses scaleful aspects and scale-free aspects. Different methodologies must be adopted for different types of geographic systems or different aspects of the same geographic system. [Termes IGN] trajectoire (véhicule non spatial)Résumé : (auteur) The automatic generation of road networks from GPS tracks is a challenging problem that has been receiving considerable attention in the last years. Although dozens of methods have been proposed, current techniques suffer from two main shortcomings: the quality of the produced road networks is still far from those produced manually, and the methods are slow, making them not scalable to large inputs. In this paper, we present a fast four-step density-based approach to construct a road network from a set of trajectories. A key aspect of our method is the use of an improved version of the Slide method to adjust trajectories to build a more compact density surface. The network has comparable or better quality than that of state-of-the-art methods and is simpler (includes fewer nodes and edges). Furthermore, we also propose a split-and-merge strategy that allows splitting the data domain into smaller regions that can be processed independently, making the method scalable to large inputs. The performance of our method is evaluated with extensive experiments on urban and hiking data. [Termes IGN] véhicule automobileRésumé : (auteur) In this paper, we represent (moving) point configurations along a curved directed line qualitatively by means of a system of relational symbols based on two distance descriptors: one representing distance along the curved directed line and the other representing signed orthogonal distance to the curved directed line. The curved directed line represents the direction of the movement of interest. For instance, it could be straight as in the case of driving along a highway or could be curved as in the case of an intersection or a roundabout. Inspired by the Point Calculus, the order between the points on the curved directed line is described by means of a small set of binary relations () acting upon the distance descriptors. We call this representation the Point-Descriptor-Precedence-Static (PDPS) representation at a time point and Point-Descriptor-Precedence-Dynamic (PDPD) representation during a time interval. To illustrate how the proposed approach can be used to represent and analyse curved movements, some basic micro-analysis traffic examples are studied. Finally, we discuss some extensions of our work to highlight the practical benefits of PDP in identifying motion patterns that could be useful in GIS, autonomous vehicles, sports analytics, and gait analysis. [Termes IGN] superposition de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) The registration of indoor and outdoor scans with a precision reaching the level of geometric noise represents a major challenge for Indoor/Outdoor building modeling. The basic idea of the contribution presented in this paper consists in extracting planar polygons from indoor and outdoor LiDAR scans, and then matching them. In order to cope with the very small overlap between indoor and outdoor scans of the same building, we propose to start by extracting points lying in the buildings’ interior from the outdoor scans as points where the laser ray crosses detected façades. Since, within a building environment, most of the objects are bounded by a planar surface, we propose a new registration algorithm that matches planar polygons by clustering polygons according to their normal direction, then by their offset in the normal direction. We use this clustering to find possible polygon correspondences (hypotheses) and estimate the optimal transformation for each hypothesis. Finally, a quality criteria is computed for each hypothesis in order to select the best one. To demonstrate the accuracy of our algorithm, we tested it on real data with a static indoor acquisition and a dynamic (Mobile Laser Scanning) outdoor acquisition. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) The given paper describes a method for automatic 3D reconstruction of bridges from cadastral footprints and airborne laser scanning point clouds. The reconstructed bridges are used to enrich 3D city models. Unlike roofs, decks of bridges are typically smooth without ridge lines or step edges. Therefore, established methods for roof reconstruction are not suitable for bridges. The standard description language for semantic city models is CityGML. This specification of the Open Geospatial Consortium assumes that surfaces are composed of planar polygons. The approximation of smooth decks by planar polygons is achieved by using a medial axis tree. Instead of the medial axis of the footprint, a modified medial axis is computed that does not consider counter bearing edges. The resulting tree represents centerline connections between all counter bearing edges and, in conjunction with filtered height values of a point cloud, serves as the basis for approximation with polygons. In addition to modeling decks, superstructures such as pylons and cables are also derived from the point cloud. For this purpose, planes carrying many superstructure points are detected using the Random Sampling Consensus Algorithm (RANSAC). Images are generated by projecting points onto these planes. Then, image processing methods are used to find connected contours that are extruded to form 3D objects. The presented method was successfully applied to all bridges of two German cities as well as to large bridges built over the Rhine River.
