[Termes IGN] volume (grandeur)Résumé : (auteur) Key message : Three options are proposed to improve the accuracy of national forest biomass estimates and decrease the uncertainty related to tree model selection depending on available data and national contexts.
Introduction : Different tree volume and biomass equations result in different estimates. At national scale, differences of estimates can be important while they constitute the basis to guide policies and measures, particularly in the context of climate change mitigation.
Method : Few countries have developed national tree volume and biomass equation databases and have explored its potential to decrease uncertainty of volume and biomasttags estimates. With the launch of the GlobAllomeTree webplatform, most countries in the world could have access to country-specific databases. The aim of this article is to recommend approaches for assessing tree and forest volume and biomass at national level with the lowest uncertainty. The article highlights the crucial need to link allometric equation development with national forest inventory planning efforts.
Results : Models must represent the tree population considered. Data availability; technical, financial, and human capacities; and biophysical context, among other factors, will influence the calculation process.
Conclusion : Three options are proposed to improve accuracy of national forest assessment depending on identified contexts. Further improvements could be obtained through improved forest stratification and additional non-destructive field campaigns.

[Termes IGN] transformation non linéaireRésumé : (Auteur) A new approach to relative orientation based on dual quaternions is proposed. Dual quaternions are used to express a unified description of the relative position and orientation of two images in a stereopair. The coplanarity condition equation and its linearised model based on dual quaternions are established. According to the principle of least squares adjustment with constraints, a dual quaternion can be identified and the relative-orientation parameters can then be obtained by a non-linear transformation of the components of the dual quaternion. Experimental results show that the proposed approach is feasible and more reliable and efficient than the conventional approach based on Euler angles. [Termes IGN] volume (grandeur)Résumé : (auteur) The full-scale avalanche test site at Lautaret Pass in the southern French Alps has been used by IRSTEA-Cemagref Research Institute since 1972. Over recent years, two avalanche paths have been used routinely to release avalanches and study avalanche dynamics and interactions between avalanches and obstacles. Avalanche flows are generally dense and dry, sometimes with a powder cloud on top. Main avalanche path no. 2 is dedicated to studies on avalanche dynamics. Within the flow of the avalanche, flow height and vertical profiles of pressure and velocity are measured along a 3.5 m tripod. The snow volume released in the release zone is quantified by differential analysis of laser scanning measurements performed before and after triggering. High-speed positioning of the avalanche front along the track is carried out by terrestrial oblique photogrammetry. Above the dense layer, the upper layer of the avalanche is characterized by particle and air flux measurements. Avalanche path no. 1 is smaller in size and particularly well-suited to experiments on structures exposed to small to medium-size avalanches ( Numéro de notice : A2015--114 Affiliation des auteurs : ENSG+Ext (2012-2019) Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1016/j.coldregions.2015.03.005 Date de publication en ligne : 18/03/2015 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1016/j.coldregions.2015.03.005 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=90654

[Termes IGN] représentation cartographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Qualitative knowledge representation of spatial locations and relations is popular in many text-based media, for example, postings on social networks, news reports, and encyclopedia, as representing qualitative spatial locations is indispensable to infer spatial knowledge from them. However, an integrative model capable of handling direction-based locations of various spatial objects is missing. This study presents an integrative representation and inference framework about direction-based qualitative locations for points, lines, and polygons. In the framework, direction partitions of different types of reference objects are first unified to create a partition consisting of cells, segments, and corners. They serve as a frame of reference to locate spatial objects (e.g., points, lines, and polygons). Qualitative relations are then defined to relate spatial objects to the elements in a cell partition, and to form the model of qualitative locations. Last, based on the integrative representation, location-based reasoning mechanism is presented to derive topological relations between objects from their locations, such as point–point, line–line, point–line, point–polygon, line–polygon, and polygon–polygon relations. The presented model can locate any type of spatial objects in a frame of reference composed of points, lines, and polygons, and derive topological relations between any pairs of objects from the locations in a unified method.
